Can petitioner go with Beneficiary in interview?

Hello all,

My husband has filed for my mother-in-law but we've to get through NVC before interview so we've quite a bit of time. My mother-in-law does not speak English at all. I was wondering if they allow petitioner (in this case, my husband) to go with beneficiary during the visa interview at Mumbai consulate. Will they allow petitioner to be present during interview? If not, will they at least allow petitioner to go with beneficiary into the building/room where they wait to be called for interview?

08/28/2012 - NOA1 date
08/31/2012 - Received email from USCIS saying the package is accepted
09/11/2012 - Received a letter saying case transferred Lee's Summit, MO
02/15/2013 - Received an email saying case is approved
02/22/2013 - I-130 NOA2 hard copy received

02/18/2013 - NVC received the case
03/11/2013 - NVC case # assigned
03/12/2013 - Petitioners' email corrected, Beneficiary's email added
03/13/2013 - DS3032 received
03/13/2013 - DS3032 email sent (was sent before the we received the DS3032)
03/13/2013 - AOS fee invoiced and Paid (shows In Progress)
03/14/2013 - AOS fee shows PAID

Sure you can go to the interview. But note that it's NOT your interview so nothing will be asked of you. Probably you might just stand there and watch...even some consulate might not let you in into the interview room.

Just have your passport or ID ready if you choose go but your presence will not make or break a successful interview.

Sure you can go to the interview. But note that it's NOT your interview so nothing will be asked of you. Probably you might just stand there and watch...even some consulate might not let you in into the interview room.

Just have your passport or ID ready if you choose go but your presence will not make or break a successful interview.

I understand that petitioner is not allowed to interfere in anyway. I personally think it'll be just a good moral support for my mother-in-law if my husband is there with her. Plus, if anything were to come-up, she'll have his help handy.

Yes I agree absolutely being there will be good moral support. Also, probably provide calming influence and assurance that all shall be well no matter the outcome. My very best of luck to her!

In India, they allow petitioner in Delhi Embassy only.

Yup! But in Mumbai Consulate, they have " no entry " for petitioner. May be, they can change the rule in future. :)

While I certainly hope they change it in future, I highly doubt it. I think it was same rule 16 years ago when we went for our interview. May be we can make gatekeeper happy by bringing some US chocolates so he let petitioner in ;). J/k

BTW, do you know how I can let them know that my mother in law will need translator??

Indian Official at fingerprints window will ask her language preference. When I was there, I saw there were good amount of people where they preferred to do interview in local language. It is easy! Wont be hassle at all.
