My wife has acclimated very nicely to her new life here. We are very happy together not to say we have haven’t had any disagreements. We have been together close to one year now. She has worked two jobs since arriving, we have planted a garden, raise chickens and she has had a chance to meet and make new friends. This is the happiest I have been I am very fortunate to have meant her and made her my wife. I am one lucky man.

For me, I love him more than anything and would marry him a million times over. But....it is tougher than I had hoped. Trying to blend 2 families with us and 5 kids is hard. We have fought more than I had thought but it is getting easier every day.

I guess I had to let my expectations down a bit and just enjoy instead of trying to make it all perfect and micromanage everything to death lol

He is very laid back procrastinaty guy and I am a lets get it all done now impulsive gal.

I am reading the book "the proper care and feeding of husbands" by Dr. Laura (she is nuts in many ways but I agree with her on some things) and it is making a world of difference.

lol glad I am not alone. I just want to kick him sometimes and I know he feels the same

He is the guy who spends a month looking at tv's to buy...going to different stores to check prices and models...I am the one who says lets get a tv and goes and gets one. A middle ground might be good since we are both nuts lol.

I wouldn't have married him if I wasn't SURE we had spent enough time together and I felt 100% sure I knew him and could spend the res tof my life with him.

We took our time, and I'm glad we did.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

My husband is the same man he was when we met :) I guess it might be different for us, because before we began our LDR, we had met in person and spent several weeks together, etc so we knew we got along well before embarking on our odyssey/visa journey. We also had the lucky chance to spend two additional months together after our initial separation. I'm so happy being with him! Everyday I can see what a sweet, good person he is and I love him even more

I also think it has made it easier on us that we don't have any children, so it's really just us having to adjust to living together.

It has been REALLY hard for us. She is still running her businesses and things that are in Odessa from Phoenix. It is causing some problems. I have offered to move us there as she makes more money then I do. However, she is so AGAINST the idea. She thinks that she would be humiliated if her friends and family find out that she makes more money then her husband...or god forbid supports her husband. Kind of wierd in my American mind. Anyways...we are working through it.

We're not together yet, but when I went to India Ryan was so much more loving to me in person. And now that he has actually been with me and realized where the mess ups were, and where things need work, I honestly think he will be even better the second time around. :) He's a great guy. I wouldn't give him up for anything. I love my baby!

He's more than I imagined now that we're together everyday...and I would have done this all over again. Sure, I wish we'd been able to spend more time together, but you know, I think that's what made our relationship as strong as it is. All that time apart we spent getting to know each other on so many different levels. Sigh...he still wows me.

Oooooh. I'm SUCH a realist and I answered this differently maybe than some would?

He's pretty much the same as I thought he was. I didn't get any surprises. BUT I do wish we had had more time together - however we made the choice to be together quickly - we could have taken more time but we didn't so whatever 'difficulties' we have now are of our own making.

Thus leading to the third answer - No it's tougher than I thought it would be. I say that not from the standpoint of 'us' - we are solid. BUT it's been VERY tough getting things together economically and financially. It's probably going to be ages before he finds work in his field, and I'm trying to find better employment.

So my answers are not based on our 'coupleness' but on the things around us that can affect a couple. We could have controlled things better and made our adjustments easier on ourselves if we had paced things differently. But we are 'older' and didn't want to waste time being apart - we had both been unhappy way to long.

It's going to be worth it, but it's taking some work to get there!

Cool thread. I can't wait until I have real answers. Part of me is paranoid because of the stories I hear here on VJ and mostly because of how things turned out for my best friend who brought her man over from Peru on a K1 visa. During their courtship she visited 3 times and they were sooooooooo in love...best friends, blah, blah, blah. Well, he got here and it wasn't "easy" to get that executive job (bitter laugh). He made the same mistake that many foreigners do: he thought life here in the States would be rich. He thought he was above taking a minimum wage job and all that jazz. Anyway, was a disaster. :(
