Text alert Reliability

Hello,

For those who have signed up for text alerts, had you received an alert confirming your RoC has been approved before they actually mailed out the 10 yr card?

Or are there some of you who signed up for text alerts, and still did not receive any, but directly got the card in the mail?

I have read past posts where filers have said that the online case status is not updated frequently, and sometimes not at all, but how reliable are the text alerts?

Thanks

Once in a while, for a period of two years, I was getting a text about our I-129F being approved.. It annoyed me to a point where I logged in to the website and took the alerts off.

As far as any other alerts - never received anything (e-mail or text) for AOS, EAD or AP except much much later after approval.

I believe that the website and website alerts are completely unreliable.

Fortunately I had all my alerts, web-access updates, emails, letter (including the ones sent abroad) received correctly throughout the I-130/ DS-230/ I-864 processes. And I know of a few that had issues.

USA

01/08/13 - Approved and GC is order for production on 1/8/14

09/12/13 - Case transferred to CSC. NOA2 received on 09/18/13

08/30/13 - Biometrics Done - No walk ins allowed at this LSC (received on 8/16/13).

08/05/13 - NOA1 (received on 08/10/13)

08/01/13 - Mailed I-751 (received on 8/2/13 - check cashed on 8/5/13)

12/28/11 - Received SSN (applied on 12/20/11, as we didn't get based on DS-230 options)
11/28/11 - Received Green Card (Expires on 10/30/13) - Welcome Letter on 11/17/11
10/30/11 - POE - Houston, TX

Chennai Consulate (40 days)
10/28/11 - Received Visa papers and Passport at VFS
10/25/11 - Interview Cleared Successfully (Spouse was not allowed in)

NVC: (90 days from NOA2 to Consulate)
08/31/11 - Case Completed (Interview 10/25/11) - Received at Chennai on 09/19/11
07/22/11 - NVC Case Number

USCIS: (92 days)

6/21/11 - NOA2 (NOA1 on 3/25/11) - took a month to get to NVC
3/21/11 - I-130 sent to USCIS Lockbox, Chicago.

thanks for all your replies and I just wanted to add that in order to sign up for the alerts, you can only use the receipt # from your Biometrics appointment notice and not the NOA #.

In case you want to now sign up for text & email alerts, but cannot find that paper, given how many months have passed, it's quite straightforward:

In order to get to speak to a USCIS officer, call immigration at toll free 1800 375 5283, then choose the option that says "technical difficulties with the website." That will get you to a representative who will ask you basic questions like name, address, dob, and then explain you need the biometrics receipt #.

Then you will get transferred to a USCIS officer who can provide this info to you.

Note, the wait is about 20 minutes, and they first ask if you are the petitioner or beneficiary. Not sure if you must be the beneficiary to get this info.
