Democratic Colorado state Rep. Joe Salazar apologized Monday for suggesting some women are so unjustifiably afraid of being raped that they are liable to start shooting wildly.

Salazar, arguing in favor of disarming college students, said Friday on the Colorado House floor that women fearing rape may suddenly and haphazardly ”pop a round at somebody.”

“It’s why we have call boxes; it’s why we have safe zones; it’s why we have the whistles — because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop … pop a round at somebody,” Salazar said.

this isn't a stupid comment, it's the truth. if a person is overly paranoid, they're more apt to have little control over their trigger finger. it's not like the man was saying that properly trained women with guns will lose the ability to shoot properly if threatened with the prospect of rape. you're reaching..

A woman who walks around constantly terrified she will be raped shouldn't be carrying a gun. Neither should a man walking around constantly terrified of every "suspicious" teenager walking through his neighborhood.

i can tell you that in my 34 years on this planet as a woman - i have been in plenty of situations where i felt creeped out and on guard by the presence of men who never justified my suspect reactions. i don't think any man knows what it is to be a woman and to be raised to always be on the lookout for possible danger. girls are taught to be proactive when it comes to sexual assault - cover up, never go alone, watch your drink etc etc. do you think about such things every time you walk across a parking lot? stop for a bite to eat late at night? travel alone? again, this guy isn't saying anything about women who are trained in high stress scenarios to objectively use a fire arm - he's talking about girls in college.

Every female teacher should learn to handle a gun as good as this 13 year old girl.Then you would not have mass shootings in the schools.If you had every woman get this training at a young age then you would have fewer rapes and assaults also.You would take away the "control " issues.
