So you think any of these places will open up for massive immigration from places like Bangladesh? No? I didn't think so!

What does that have to do with anything?

Just taking a stab, I think you mean that Bangladesh will be under water due to global warming, so the people there should be able to immigrate to Alaska because of it. Did I get that right?

Did you read the post I responded to? The claim that increased livability in Canada, Alaska, Siberia, etc justifies the decreased livability in places like Bangladesh does not make sense unless one couples that with a recognition that mass migration will be allowed for people to move to the newly hospitable areas from the climate change's 'biggest losers'! I asked if those who claim global warming is not a problem would support such a 'solution'. Would you?

That's what I thought you meant. I was just clarifying that it was really as silly as you suggested before I responded.

No, I would not support such a solution. Simply because some parts of the world become less livable does not mean you open up immigration to places that are more livable. By that logic, Mexico sucks, so we should open up immigration to anyone from there that wants to come to the U.S.. I think Texas is unlivable and want to move to Denmark. They should give me a visa because this place is full of gun toting rednecks and I fear for my life. Texas has now become unlivable for me. Who makes the decision on what is "livable?"

I've been to Bangladesh numerous times. The place is a $hithole. It's unlivable now, yet people still live there. They have been living there for 1000s of years and have somehow adapted to the continuous flooding that occurs EACH and EVERY year. People adapt. They have in the past and they will in the future. No global warming boogeyman is going to change that.

Bangladesh is one little pissant country. Write it off to evolution.

If the sea rises and eats up Bangladesh, people will move. They won't move to Alaska (no one's going to let them on any planes) but they'll walk north, west and east. Bhutan, India and Burma better watch out. Massive refugee problems.

There's a difference between yearly river flooding and land becoming part of the seabed for the foreseeable future. There are some things one can only adapt to by moving out.

Maybe. If they know these floods are going to occur yearly as part of the monsoon, why do they continue to live there and risk their lives? I certainly wouldn't call that "livable" I don't know for certain, but I'm sure the yearly death toll is in the 1000s due to these yearly floods which everyone should know are coming.

If the place becomes part of the seabed for the foreseeable future, they'll move inland.

How republican of you! Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh must be so proud!

Realistically, though - if Alaska and the north 'open up' due to thawing, why would you let the Bangladeshis have it? It'll be resource rich and climatically quite pleasant.

Let the poor displaced migrants have Texas. It'll be hot, dry and sh1tty.

If the worst predictions of the global warming set come to pass, even Texans will leave Texas. It'll basically be desert.

Phoenix and Palm Springs are basically deserts. They seem pretty nice.

Migration, for a multitude of reasons, is typical for most, if not all species. You don't think folks left the Mongolian Plains and the Asian Steepe just to lower the overall IQ of Europe.

That's because the water hasn't dried up yet. In the worst global warming scenarios, the rivers dry up.

Yes, I am aware. People tend to not sit on their butts and wait to die.

Unless they're from New Orleans.

Precipitation should actually increase. Higher temperatures mean high vapor pressures, resulting in faster evaporation. More water in the atmosphere means more rainfall.
