Sponsor helping extend stay

Hello everyone, sadly nothing has changed in my situation, but I'm asking for a friend of mine.

He was just informed by his sponsor, and employer too he thinks, that they will be meeting with him soon to work on extending his stay before his maximum 3 yr timeframe expires this summer for his J-1 Visa. He is wondering if that means they will be sponsoring a green card for him, or if they will be helping him just get a waiver for a change of status and then just get him another J-1 Visa.

Does anyone know if you can get back-to-back J-1 Visas after you go through a change of status? He's anxious and excited, and just wants to know what to expect when he meets with his sponsor in a couple of weeks.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys

Unless his employer/sponsor posts on here I do not see how you can get an answer.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Why would that be? He's just wanting to know if anyone has any idea of what he would be looking forward to.

Sorry, just seemed like a simple question. Then again, it's so new that everything seems simple to us newbies to this stuff.

We don;t know what his employer is thinking, so we cannot advice you what they will tell him,

As far as I know, there is a limit on the J1, and there could not be a change of status to another J1 because there would be no change.

They may want to transition him onto a H1B (which would make sense as they open in April), or have him go home and work remotely for a while....

Thanks Penguin, I'll let him know.

From what he says they don't want him to leave at all, so maybe they're trying to go H1B after all. Who knows, just thought I'd ask for him. Either way, I'm sure so long as he gets to stay he'll be thrilled.

He did say they hope to have final word from Department of something-or-the-other before June.
