This happened to my friend, the time he said, then realized Brazil nuts shouldn't be called "omitted" toes. Some will probably know what I'm referring to.

When I was first learning Spanish, I was attempting a conversation with my new boyfriend (now husband)'s family and tried to say something to the tune of "I'm embarrassed", but got the Spanish word for "embarrassed" confused... instead I told everyone I was pregnant. I was very careful to never make that mistake again.

I'm a bit of a klutz... I'm sure I'll think of plenty other embarrassing stories that have happened to me. :P

Once when I was at camp in the summer, my cousin and I were waiting for the boys to come serenade us (we had heard they were on their way). The hours got long, and people started drifting to their bed because the boys had not arrived. My bunk was right next to the window, so I promised to watch and wait. Well, I too became quite tired. And as luck would have it, one of my favorite things to do was toss and turn while asleep. Apparently, I tossed and turned so much that my sleeping bag made its way to my ankles and my nightgown made it to my chin. It was at that moment that the boys came to serenade...I am such a sound sleeper I never awoke. However, I heard I provided quite the entertainment for the night.

In my former life (pre-immigration) I was a Museum Curator. One of my major career moves came in my early 30s when I became Curator of newly constructed Municipal Museum. Much of the 'timeline for the opening was already in place before I was hired even though construction wasn't finished on the facility. I had to set up the Museum, and design and install all of the exhibits in this incredibly short timeline. I don't think I saw that summer because I was so worried about getting everything done in time that I often woke up in the middle of the night and went back to work at 3 and 4 am after just a few hours sleep!

So, it's Opening Night (also scheduled before I was hired) with all of the bigwigs from the Provincial Ministry of Citizenship and Culture, the Mayor and City Council, Board members, the sponsors and funding representatives, and every local big wig in the community present. My staff and I have been literally slaving away behind the scenes trying to get the last of the exhibit cases together before the doors open. (The paint was still wet in places while the first visitors toured the exhibits!) I changed quickly from my workclothes into something appropriate for the opening and go out to join everyone in the lobby for the official part of the event, leaving my staff to do the final clean up. My family have driven in from out of town to share this 'big moment' with me. I am with the Mayor and he is introducing me to everyone, when my mother comes over to me and in front of everyone licks her finger and then rubs it against my cheek erasing a 'speck of dirt' that she saw there! I couldn't believe she had just done that in front of everyone! I was so embarrassed! Fortunately, after a quick moment of silence, the Mayor moved me on to the next person, and later confided to me that his mother still did the same when he visited her. When I asked my Mom later why she had done that, I saw the look of horror cross her face as she just realized what she had done.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I was tired of my roommate complain that he was missing his wallet.

I finally got fed up and tore threw his room and he stood there staring at me.

I moved a few towels, then stopped, stared him in the eyes and said,

"YOU ARE DISGUSTING DERRICK!"

Then walked out the room.

I'll let you decipher that on your own.

lol....I have a few guesses.....

Come on KDH, we all know that you really had a crush on him, and you were sniffing his jockstrap, and at that very same moment, he walks in and catches you. And it was him that said "YOUR DISGUSTING KDH!" and he walks out.....
