calling USCIS before overdue date

it's been 4 months since we got our NOA1. which is 1.5 months away from the current average processing time the USCIS website gives us.

so my fiancé is very reluctant to call the USCIS. he thinks it won't make any impact on our case and he doubts they'll even give us any information.

i wanted him to call so we at least know what is going on with our case. as i read tier 2 officers can give you certain information such as if your case was handed down to an officer or what your name or background check status is.

did anyone call the USCIS before you hit the mark of the official average processing times?

does it make sense to get in touch with a tier 2 person "prematurely" so to speak?

i'd like to convince him to do it, so any experience reports are very helpful! thank you!

Personally, I don't think there is any reason to call. You are at 4 months and If I am not mistaken the processing average is no longer 5 months at CSC ...they are currently working on second half of July and some August filers were also approved. I think most of us are pretty much expecting to wait 7-8 months on average. I do not think your case will go any faster if you call them.

GC received on the 28th of February, 2014 - no interview, no additional RFE's

Divorced as of September, 2014

NOA1 for ROC 14 October, 2014

Life goes on, my ex-husband is a moron.

Agreed.... There is nothing they are going to be able to tell him at this point except to wait for the case to fall outside processing times before calling again. To me it would just be an added stress at this point.

i just wanted to call to know what the heck is going on. simply out of curiosity. but i also understand it doesn't make much sense just yet.

thanks for your replies!

If you're at 4 months, don't call. Chances are they haven't even looked at your case yet. Mine took pretty much about 6 months and that is pretty much the norm, a few may be shorter, some may be longer. Once you're at the 7 month mark, I'd call. Nothing will make it go faster.

Agree with others, nothing to be gained from calling, except more stress.

Hang in there.
