I don't know why this did not click with me earlier but it didn't.

I lived in the US under my previous GC from Sep 2006 until June 2011. Do I need to get a police clearance from the US? Do I do that just through the State police in the State I lived??

Help please.

Yes, you need a police clearance from the US. You get it through the FBI. Check their website for instructions (it will require getting your fingerprints on a card at your local police station and a few other steps). Google "get a US police clearance" for more information; lots of people have been through this.

08 Jul 2013: SSN received (at SSA office)

27 Feb 2014: Whoa, life happened. Planning move "back home" together to Republic of Ireland by end of April.

29 Apr 2014: POE Dublin through Heathrow

15 May 2014: Received formal residency/work permission (GNIB card with Stamp 4, one year renewable) for the ROI

You will not need to get a police clearance from the U.S.

How do I obtain a police certificate?

Determine the countries from which a police certificate is required. Refer to the table below.

Note: Present and former residents of the United States need NOT obtain any U.S. police certificates

Oh, good. I was reading something that said they did, but I might have become confused about the status of the person whose case was being discussed. Thanks for the correction and the terrific reference.
