Joint Sponsor Question

My joint sponsor is my stepson. I have his birth certificate but it is in his mother's maiden name. My wife's first husband adopted him so his name is now different and it is the name on all of his other ID. My wife is the USC.

What should I do?

That is no problem, the joint sponsor doesn't even need to be related to you/ your wife, but if you like your wife can write a short cover note explaining.

Sorry - my issue is that the name on his birth certificate is different than the name on all of the other records i.e. tax summaries, etc.

Ah ok- does he have an adoption certificate or some other official record of the name change? Or can he ust use a current US passport to prove his US citizenship, with his "new" name?

Not likely there is any form of official adoption record around now unless we can get it from the state.

If we use the passport, what would be required? Would a notarized color photocopy of the bio page of his passport do?

At this point, a notarized color photocopy of the bio page would be sufficient. In fact, a very clear B/W photocopy of the bio page would be sufficient. The instructions only say a "copy".
