Do you need to be OFFICILLY engaed for K1?

Hi All,

We recently applied for the K1, but we aren't officially engaged. I haven't picked out the ring as yet. Don't get me wrong, we already have our wedding plans set based on her approval, but was wondering if we need to be officially engaged before doing the interview?

I do however plan on going to her interiew, and thought if we should get engaged then, and have a celebration with the family before going to the interview, or can we skip all of that? Please advise.

You may not have done the "one knee" thing or put the ring on her finger, but technically, and most importantly, by the book for the visa process, when you both wrote up and signed your intent to marry documents, you became engaged. For Visa purposes, there need not be any ceremony or rules by which you become engaged. All they require is the stated intent from each of you to marry. The rest is personal and may be done however you feel is best. Just don't get married before your fiance comes here with the visa.

The Letters of Intent filed with the petition and updated ones brought to the interview are all that are required. Period.
