I'm working on getting my bachelor's degree so I can become a Foreign Service Officer, and it's not the ACT test, nor the physial or medical test, or even the clearance(I have a Top Secret already) that gets me nervous, it's the interview. When they see me, all I can think is, please let my 20 year record speak, let me suit and tie speak, let my english skills speak, not my skin color.

I think you'll be fine. Maybe I live in fantasy land, but I'd like to think if you didn't get that job, it wouldn't be because of your skin color. Like I said, I don't know you personally, but from what I've seen here, you seem like a pretty level headed guy. I'm trying to put myself in your shoes, (which of course I can't) and think about how I would feel if I didn't get a job because of race. I really don't think it would bother me. I guess my attitude would be if that's how they judge people, then I probably don't want to be working there anyway.

I seriously doubt the government, especially the state department, would look at race.

After all, a white, man-hating, lesbian, female has been running the place for the last 4 years. So they seem pretty open minded.

Lol, I forgot to thank you for the compliment earlier. Thanks, that's my attitude as well, if they don't want me, I don't need them. Since my wife wants to move back overseas I am working on options that can put us close to her home or at least within a few hundred miles. But when you aren't working and need that money to put food on the table I can see how someone can be sore about it.

You seem to be pretty level headed for a conservative as well, I wish some of the other ones would follow suit(you know who you are). I think Ev, Teddy, and Steven have good head on their shoulders, but I can't afford to be as passionate as them on certain subjects, if I get too out of pocket I will lose credability in my ability to reason with folks on here.

I want to move back overseas as well. Thailand specifically. Getting the wife to go along is another story. She really seems to like it here. She's amazed how in the U.S. you don't have to pay people off to get things done. I had to tell her multiple times after getting her driver's license here, "Don't try to give the cop any money if you get pulled over, they don't like that here"

I'm not as conservative as you might think. I just enjoy seeing how many "f*cks" I can get out of Mr Big Dog on a daily basis.

Nice, my wife doesn't like it here too much, she deals with the crazy looks as well. We have alot of asians here, but no malays. So she catches hell when we go out. Mostly the flilipinas think she is one of them and start talking tagalog off the bat. Plus she just misses home like crazy, we are going back in May once our son gets done with his military training.

Mr Big Dog has me cracking up, personally I like going toe to toe with Gary or Danno, I believe with enough logic and reason I can either get them to understand where I am coming from or have Gary start screaming I'm a racist

Sometimes it's passion for a subject, but 95% of the time, it's boredom at work. There's a reason I'm not around here on evenings or weekends.

You are fooling yourself if you think any logic or reason will change anyone's mind - especially people like who you mentioned. But I admire you for trying and I'll +1 you as much as I can.

I don't get on the weekends too much either, unless the wife is at work and I don't have school work, but doing too much here would drive anyone crazy.

I know, but sometimes it's funny to watch their reactions, esp Gary when he starts spazzing out

Actually you can't "cure" racism, it's not a disease. You don't catch it from someone or something, it's a learned behavior. No child is born hating another race or gender.

First you must define what racism is to you.

Secondly you have to move on from the bumper-sticker sloganeering.

For instance, life is not a green light or red light... or a "Like a demographic or hate a demographic" this childish refrain of "hate" is vacant really, few people have hatred for whites or blacks rather there are various degrees of affection or dislike.

But to some of you people here, if a person just doesn't like Southerners... or Hispanics or Blacks, it must mean they hate them because it is not possible to just not care for them as a group.

so what you're trying to tell us is that you "don't care for" blacks "as a group" but don't hate them and therefore you are not racist, just ... a likeist?

Why pick on Blacks?

I think it's true we all like and dislike certain common things, about every group.

Here is the definition or racism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism. Like I said before there is a difference between preference and hatred. The guy in this article is racist: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_supremacist. It's that cut and dry. He's part of a hate group, not a dislike group. You can prefer to stay within your race, and there is nothing wrong with that. Most people prefer that. Just like I know there are several minorities that like to keep it within their own demographic, most for pride and heritage reasons, and they have no problem letting you know that. But here is what makes them not racist, they don't treat you with disdain. They won't go out of their way to find someone like them to serve them, or let you know all the things they don't like about you.

I'll do better to change that, I promise!

Thanks Marvin, and the feeling is mutual.

Lol, there's nothing wrong with it, but because of my position as a minority, I have to tread on a different path. I wish I could let loose but then I would be stigmatized as an angry black person. So in order to keep myself in check, I don't resort to cussing or ranting how hot my wife is

Not by anyone whose opinion matters, anyway.
