Ew, jeez, I hope not.

Also, instead of being super hot, it's now turned into torrential downpours. It hasn't stopped raining since Sunday! Which also means doing laundry is impossible. Have you ever gotten to that point where you have no clean clothes and are forced to wear your bathing suit? I'm almost there. <_<

What do Ecuadorians do during the rainy season? In India during the Monsoon season, they do the laundry, hang it indoors and turn all the ceiling fans on at full speed. This method never works as well though and most of your clothes end up half damp and spelling like mildew. I try to wear my thinnest saree or salwar suits during this time since they dry fast. Of course, once you go outside you just get wet all over again so there almost is not point tongue_ss.gif

I am the petitioner.

I think I could fill a page of rants with my work day today. I swear that working for a supermarket is like working for El Diablo.

Most Ecuadorian households have an awning(sp?) for their roofs, so it's open and air can come through but it's safe from the rain. Our building doesn't have that, so we have to just drape it around the house and hope it dries correctly, but like you said it usually ends up damp and smelly. I'm crossing my fingers for a sunny day, or at least for the rain to stop, either tomorrow or Thursday. I just need a few hours of rainless skies.

I always got the impression that the rainy season in India was really intense, though. If it's anything like Ecuador, everything floods and gets muddy and there are mudslides and blah blah blah, as though it's happening for the first time and nobody knows how to handle it. Even my husband gets annoyed and says people should be better prepared, since the same thing happens every year. There is no drainage system at all, though, so pretty much any time it rains everything turns into a big lake.

Sounds like the UK during a snowstorm. As soon as it starts snowing, it's practically "OMG cancel all transport!!11!" and "CLOSE EVERYTHING!". Which is annoying to say the least when you rely on public transport to get to places. Though it'd be nice if employers were a bit more helpful regarding public transport and childcare..

I know exactly what you are talking about. This is a common practice in the IT industry especially when the supervisor is an immigrant themselves. They will advertise a job to supposedly adhere to the law that they must try to find a U.S. citizen or permanent resident first. However they post the jobs at extremely reduced salaries that no one at that experience level will take it. They also accept resumes but allow them to collect dust on their desks. Meanwhile they had their cousin in New Delhi in mind for the job the whole time.

I am fortunate so far in that the immigrant work force hasn't displaced my field yet. Most foreigners who go for biology degrees choose to go into medicine or research instead of wildlife biology/environmental science. Also companies are strongly in favor of local candidates for various reasons including having detailed knowledge of the plant life and wildlife of the area and having specific licenses for the state or locality. This is something that comes from years of experience and cannot be filled by a foreign worker. For instance, in order to be a qualified Indiana bat surveyor, you must have at least 5 years experience working under another qualified surveyor. 5 years isn't enough to get on the list either. The applicant must go through a rigorous process issued by the state agencies and the US fish and wildlife. I'm in line to get on the list to be a qualified mussel surveyor but I need at least 2 more field seasons to even meet the minimum qualifications.

Thank you for understanding and I so do not mean any disrespect. And yes every QA Analyst I have meet in the past 4 years seems to either be here on H1B or immigrated here from India. My managers and QA leads same. It is very discriminatory and hard. And I am in Houston the NEW silicon valley.

Oh well all I can do is keep applying and interviewing.

Monsoons are pretty intense especially in my husband's area where landslides cease all travel in the mountains. And yes, drainage is nearly nonexistent in some areas so you are left with rivers in the streets. The worst part of monsoon season is the mosquitos though. Dengue fever cases always go up during monsoon along with waterborne illnesses. My husband says the same thing about preparation. Monsoons happen all over India and have been since the beginning of time but they cause so much destruction, disease, and general headaches.

It's kind of like how people in the north complain about nasty snow storms. Hello, you live in the North. It snows in the winter and chances are its going to snow again next winter. And I'm sorry, no office should shut down in the north from a normal winter storm. I'm looking at you NVC whistling.gif

Ack, I know! Or people who can't figure out how to drive in the snow (at home) or people who still do 90 mph in the pouring rain (here). And dengue fever is almost always a factor here, but it most definitely goes up during the rainy season. I won't miss mosquitos when I go home.
