Cat litter. Even gets rid of old stains!

I'll try that. Thanks. Had to add 3 quarts to fill the trick back up, that's a lot of oil.

If my parents knew that I knew about the guy and I was happy with it, they might but that's not the case. I want to let my parents do everything their way.

Did any of the offers make your wife rethink the job she accepted? All these other offers make me nervous because I don't want them to create confusion or doubt.

I forgot you found how to contact him in secret. I just had a horrible thought, what if the guy you found on fb was really someone else with the same name?! Would you tell your parents to go hunt him out and contact him?

She really likes her knew job a lot. It has all the things she loves doing. Numbers, piles of documents, checking they meet all the requirements of every frighten county in the country, and sending invoices out. Plus its close to home, about 15 minutes away. I don't think she's even entertained the thought of discussing the other positions with them. Just said she's found something she's happy with.

its him. I know for fact because I have seen his pictures and I had him call our match maker and say certain things. Then I called and confirmed he said them. I double, triple checked it was him. I made sure there was no doubt at all about who he is.

I am glad she likes her job and stuck with it even though she had other options. gives me hope in a wierd way

Oh sorry about that. My question was meant to be hypothetical. I figured you had your ways to be sure you had the right guy. But could you imagine what it would be like if you thought you knew who your parents were setting you up with, you're all excited and looking forward to it, then they show up and its a totally different person with the same name? Maybe I've watched too many weird movies lately

I'm so happy she found a job that fits her so well. After her first interview she described it and I thought here's a job that was designed for her.

new rant... I hate the whole "god will provide and controls everything" #######. Drives me UP the wall. I want to yell.
Whenever I see same, I think to myself how godlike the USCIS case-approvers must be, and certainly how saintly the U.S. consuls are. Many of the latter need to be hauled back to the U.S. in chains.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Cat litter. Even gets rid of old stains!
I was going to suggest this, sigh man.

Cary, buy the cheapest litter that you can find -- start in the dollar stores, then the discount places (Big Lots, Dollar General). Don't overspend, no man. And raise holy hell with the oil-change place -- how could they up-screw the most basic part of their core job?

Cheapest kitty litter I can get. Check, there's a dollar store near by.

They did have a new guy in training on the job and in the pit that day. I even heard them going through the checks, including tighten plug. As to raising hell, there was a time I would have, but I seem to have really mellowed out since my wife got here, maybe there's something in the food she's fattening me up on? I think I'll just tell them what they did and insist they owe me a free oil change.

Do you miss the USA?

A loaded question for sure. There are things I miss and there are things I don't. If the situation were different and we had the money from my house sale, I could spend part of the winter in the South of Spain, and my daughter weren't so delicate and sensitive then yes, I think we would be happy in Denmark.

For the present, though, I miss it mostly for my daughter's sake. She really needs gentle friends again and the nurturing of a community. I watched her basically break when we got here and nothing could really make you feel worse as a parent. I wish I had known and we would have never moved here, but who would think such a thing could happen? She finally seems to have recovered after spending 4 months home with me and now she is ready to go back to her friends, summer camp, and school.

I have something not related about children and immigration that really pisses me off, but I'm not going to say it because it isn't my life and it isn't my business.

Actually, I am going to admit that there are very few things that I ask the gods for assistance with....but I did with this situation. I don't think that that excuses anyone from any measure of hard work and due diligence though, but rather it is just another person standing in your corner.

McDonald's is classy here. Explain that to me. There are a bunch of classy looking folk filling all the seats inside. I've never in my life seen more than one or two tables filled at a McDonald's that wasn't at a rest stop or something in America.

American chain food restaurants are a whole different thing in Europe. Try going to any TGI Fridays on a Saturday night in Athens, the wait for a table could be at least an hour long!!

Just found this thread today and I have a rant.

I almost feel bad bitching about my in-laws, 'cause they've been awesome, really. But every once in a while, they really chap my ####.

1. Please don't tell me not to play with my daughter a certain way. I promise that I am not going to drop her, I'm not going to break her back, I wouldn't allow her to get hurt. My baby likes being bounced on my knees and getting tossed in the air.

2. If I tell you that she needs a nap at 11 am, please put her down. Yes, she's going to cry for 5 minutes when you set her in her cot. That does not mean that you take her into the kitchen with you because you don't want her crying and then give her back to her father and I at 2:30, completely inconsolable because she's exhausted. I'm her mother. Naptime is not optional. :ranting:

3. And FINALLY, I know you're not feeling so hot this week. Especially since you called me on Wednesday to tell me that you couldn't keep her Friday night so that Hubs and I could make sure we could get the immigration-related things done that we needed to. However, if you're too sick to keep the baby, why have you texted or called me a half-dozen times and now guilt-tripped your son into driving a half hour to your house so that you can see the baby? You're either too sick to be around her, or you aren't.

End rant.

Rant Today:

It seems the trend I'm seeing with AIT is to send bad drivers on the weekend.

This guy called me up at 730am (630am according to my area code) to say he wanted to deliver my stuff.

I told him to sit tight until they unload at 8am.

He said 'I just deliver it to anyone here at the convention center?'

And I'm like 'Are you at the marshalling yard?'

And he's like 'no. Am I supposed to be?'

Rant the oil change place that did my oil change didn't tighten the plug when they were done. Now there's a huge pool of oil on my previously spotless garage floor. Anyone know a good way to get oil stains out of concrete? I Probably need to wait until its warm enough yet to. Tried sweeping it but its way too thick. I have no oil dry because I don't normally keep vehicles that are leaking oil and take my cars to get oil changes so it doesn't get spilled in my garage!

After using speedy dry (Cat litter), you will need a concrete cleaner from home depot. Or use a 5 to 1 amonia/water mix.

If that doesn't work, douse garage in gasoline and ignite. Then claim insurance...........

I think NikiR said she has some cat litter on sale.......:)

a car dealer forgot to screw the oil fill cap back on my car once. I made it as far as the Verrazano Narrows bridge, and then the entire dash board turned red. "Turn off engine Now" was the message (it was similar to a "master caution" in an aircraft that's in a world of #######). I was in the middle of the bridge, so I drove to the end of the bridge and turned off car. Opened the hood, the oil was all over the engine compartment. the smell was terrible inside the car. I called up the dealer huffing and puffing.

The car was a lease, it had less than 10k miles on it. I refused to continue leasing the car because of the smell. The manufacturer got involved, they gave me a new car.

I'm so happy she found a job that fits her so well. After her first interview she described it and I thought here's a job that was designed for her.

That's a great thing to hear. I was sick of........... "I can't find anything in America"

I've known so many immigrants in my life. And so many had the ...."OK, I'm here, whatever job you have, I'll do it" attitude.

I'm happy for them. I'm happy for you guys.
