The program Smith (active@killdisk) created this boot disk right before I ran the wipe. It's on a stick. But according to me, the program Smith does not remove your OS.

Did you tell the software to wipe the entire hard disc or to just clean the hard drives slack (unused) space?

ideally we'd like to keep os intact though thats because i am not familiar with formatting netbooks

fresh installs are actually most ideal

but i dont want to chance having a paper weight

If I'm correct....I hope I chose the right options. At any rate, I created a boot disk with active@killdisk before I ran it. SO I think I should be OK, no?

So, for the the boot disc you created:

Active@ Boot Disk Creator helps you prepare a bootable CD, DVD or USB

mass storage device that you may use to start a machine and

repair securityaccess issues

or destroy all data on the hard drives.

So if that is what you were going to use to reinstall the OS you just screwed the pooch. The Boot disc (thumb drive) is just to do minor repairs or wipe another drive without booting into windows.

You can try but I wouldn't hold my breath. You are already 8 hours in. There is no telling what it has already over written.
