You're right. I usually do this but was in too much of a rush. Just threw everything in my suitcase and headed out the door. Lesson learned!

I'm in the panhandle, outside of Amarillo, which some Texan recently told me is the "armpit of Texas". However, I've also had some tell me Houston is the armpit of Texas and some other insisted no Dallas is the real armpit.

So TBone, can you please clarify which is the REAL armpit of Texas so that I may rest easy tonight? cool.gif

Texas has many arms, therefore many armpits. I'd vote for Houston out of your list as the biggest armpit.

Rant:

Why does my husband have to work nights? He's at a training school FFS.... Why is there a 3pm to 11:30pm shift and why is he on it for MOST of the time he's there. He sleeps during the day when I can talk to him before I go to work on my evening shift or I have to go to bed before he's home because I have to get up after he goes to sleep in the AM.

Good thing:

I have my rings back! I took them in to have the wedding ring sized and have them soldered together since they aren't an actual set. They came back more sparkly than I've ever seen them! kicking.gif Love what he picked out honestly. All he had to go off of was, white gold and mulitiple diamonds - no solitares. I don't feel so naked anymore now that my rings are back on my finger. I loves him so much!

when I was pregnant, I was a raging psychopath.
If the pregnancy thing happens again to Mrs. T-B., I plan to disappear out of town for the entire first trimester, sigh man.

It can be tough being an American in a third world country. Add in the stress of living with your in laws and dealing with immigration, I'd say its surprising you don't break down and cry more often.
Si, man (sigh, man). As stated before, when it comes down to it, Ecu is still very much a third-world country, sigh man.

So TBone, can you please clarify which is the REAL armpit of Texas so that I may rest easy tonight?

(Ahem, harrumph) [To tune of "I Love Paris," oui man]

(First verse, si man)

I love Houston in the springtime;

I love Dallas in the fall;

I love Fort Worth in the winter, when it drizzles;

I love Corpus in the summer, when it sizzles.

(Chorus, at top of lungs, decibels man)

I love Texas ever' moment!

Ever' moment of the year!

I love Texas!

Why-oh-why do I love Texas?

Because my horse is here.

(Second verse, not the same as the first, no man)

I love Austin in the springtime;

I love Lubbock in the fall;

I love Dalhart in the winter, when it drizzles;

I love Presidio in the summer, when it sizzles.

(Chorus, at top of lungs, decibels man)

I love Texas ever' moment!

Ever' moment of the year!

I love Texas!

Why-oh-why do I love Texas?

Because my horse is here.

[Lengthy standing ovation, accepted graciously, si man]

"Outside" of Amarillo? Where outside? Canyon? There's really only Amarillo and not much else, no man. Dalhart northwest, Lubbock south... where the dickens are you, huh man?

Amarillo in the winter can be brutal, brrrr man. I flew up there in June 2003; drove northwest (misjudging the distance and missing far too much); overnighted in Clayton, NM; drove straight east through the Oklahoma panhandle (a life goal to that point, see man); got two speeding-tickets in less than an hour in Guymon, Okla.; popped up to Liberal, Ks.; drove south to Canadian, Tex (!?); eventually flew back, si man. But for the pigly encounters, very enjoyable, si man. Interestingly, Amarillo is flat, but there are hills and plateaus to the northwest.

Honestly, man? I've visited all areas of Texas, except for the San Angelo area and parts due south of Midland, see man. I can safely say the following: Nowhere in Texas is the armpit, except distinctly for the inland CBP checkpoint south of Alpine, grrrr man. Actually, the POE at Roma is a close #2, grrrr man.

Google "Amarillo activities" and see what comes up.

Ok, you got me. I suppose I'm not really right outside of Amarillo. I'm staying in Borger, TX. This is the furthest west I've been in Texas,

It's huge relief to know that there is no real Armpit. I'm quite fond of Houston and Austin and Dallas is also growing on me.

I am the petitioner.

Well, Amarillo is the landmark on the map. :lol:

You're in a pretty area. What's the nearest lake -- Meredith, could it be? Without looking at the map, I think that you're roughly equidistant between Canadian and Dumas. Dumas has, if I recall, a car museum or car theme. Canadian is scenic. Depending on how long you're up there, try to travel in any direction. If you're pretty much Borger-bound, ask around for stuff to do -- folks will be pleased at your interest.

What ARE you doing there for your wonderful boss, and how long will you be up there, huh man?

Edited to add: Really, sincerely sorry that you're not there in spring or summer, sigh man.

I will forever add u's to my words, write re instead of er, cheque instead of check and spelt instead of spelled. It's how I was taught to write along with comma's before the "and" when listing items (eg: this, that, and the other thing. )

I was told once by my husband's best friend that I should try to learn to conform to a US style of writing since I was moving to the USA. I thought about it and actually tried for a while, but cheque slipped out once or twice. My husband told me to write just how I always had and it would be an interesting conversation piece instead. I like his idea. However this gives me a rant idea.

RANT:

I really dislike when people expect others to conform to their way of doing things, even if they way the other person does them is acceptable and correct.

I remember being a kid and my step-dad would get so angry if I didn't do something "his way." It wouldn't matter if "my way" got the job done, or if it worked better. His way or the highway was his motto. My mom shipped him off to the highway eventually. :) Good riddance. The moron tried to add me to facebook when I still had it. I'd rather soak my head in gasoline and light it on fire than speak to that horrible man. I never understood as a child why my mom stayed with him for so long. She recently told me that it was because she didn't know how horrible he was to me. But the odd part was, she was there for some of it and if he would be like that in front of the money wagon, how much worse would it be out of sight?

Maybe we overdo the "I always am watching" as parents which leads to children just automatically assuming we would know. I try to not do that with my child, however. I tell her, "I can't help unless you tell me. I don't know everything." Maybe that's wrong but I hope it encourages her to open up now and always.

Fully concur re the serial comma (the longhair term).

An example was a Last Will & Testament in which one Mr. D. Duck (excuse me, Ducque) stated "I will my funds in equal proportions to my nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie." Huey claimed that he should receive 50% of the funds and that Dewey and Louie should split the other half... all for want of a serial comma, see man.

Good rant, by the way, eh man.

Some people just can't get it through their heads that people have free will and our differences is what makes the world an interesting place. Christ, I'm 26 and my mother still can't accept that I don't want a career. I'm not interested in the slightest. Maybe slightly unrelated, but my entire childhood I was forced to conform to pretty rigid WASP norms - always preppy clothes, always perfectly done hair, always the right school and the right sports and even the right friends. During my slightly rebellious period in high school, I was all the time berated for not falling in line. A huge part of me developing social anxiety was this constant correction and analysis of everything I did growing up. It messes with your psyche - always second guessing, always needing perfection, etc.

I try and not do that with my daughter. As long as it works and it is good enough, then we are good to go. Want to wear 3 different clashing plaids and then some strips and clashing pink sparkly shoes? Great! Works as clothing, right?

Ok so, I am going to be really selfish - I did not read any of the posts before but I need to rant so just let me rant sorry if i am like cutting into some current rant chain.

rant: Ok so it seriously pisses me off when my fiance is an insensitive jerk making fun out of things he really should not. The story is...he lives with his parents (atm) so he has one room and single bed. Every time I flew in to visit him

or say the first 3 times....I tried really hard to share the bed with him until I basically couldn't take it anymore because i was hanging off the bed and eventually I slept laying on my shoulder so much that I was unable to lift my arms...seriously.

So then I said ok...we need a solution....but he is not very change prone so I took matters into my own hands and created a nest in the corner of the room between a night stand and trash bin and his desk, using the dog's bed and a cover

so the floor is not so hard. Ok I survived whatever - don't get me started on the fan he just HAS to have on since he doesn't want to hear noise from the street so the fan is loud as hell and i need quiet aka...either way I did not sleep at all and

ended up sleeping during the day while he was at work feeling like #######. ANYWAYS...so now I say..ok i know we have to stay with your parents for a while but that means we need a bed to sleep on i am not sleeping in the corner. Its crazy.

"uh ok yah" so I say ok...well in order to not spend money lets get Ikea futon for now its much cheaper and we split the costs (I have a thing with money and feel like we both need to contribute equally or rather ...I always need to contribute

more so nobody can make me feel bad because they gave me something and use it against me...long story).

So he says ok, we pick the color, i am happy about it so i dont have to freak about stuff as much ....and now every now and then he throws in a little comment "oh goodbye my back" (his bed is 17 years old ffs) and then later on " I find my bed really

damn comfortable" and its been pushing the wrong kinds of buttons and now he emails me and at the end says "oh 11pm time to go to sleep in the most comfortable bed in the whole world"..... I get it ok, it might have been a joke

but just not the right time or thing to joke about. I have been freaking out about this huge move for a while now because I know i will have to be the "bread winner" so to speak ...or mainly me and since I wont be able to work right away and

i dont even know if i will be able to find a good job .....I am really scared so just frikin shutting up about the stupid bed as a way to show me he is ready to make some sort of sacrifice would be nice damn it.

I am on edge what can i say uh. Damn it.

Timeline

If the pregnancy thing happens again to Mrs. T-B., I plan to disappear out of town for the entire first trimester, sigh man.

Yeah, the weird thing was, I knew I was crazy. I didn't want to be, but I simply could not help myself. I'd even apologize in the middle of my hysterical sobbing. And then be on the verge of homicidal mania 10 minutes later. I think it's probably the closest I'll ever be to multiple personalities. And The Hubs (who occasionally is, for lack of a better word, an IDIOT) would try to wind me up because he thought it was funny. I'm surprised he survived until delivery. Hopefully the second time around would go smoother. At least I'd have an idea of what was coming.
