I get this angry rant a lot down here. People ask me where I'm from, I say "I'm American" and they go off about how presumptions Americans are for calling themselves Americans since they, too, are "Americans", and that I should be more specific, blah blah blah. headbonk.gif As far as I'm concerned, that logic can f$%& off.

Next time, do what the Jews do when asked the question, "what are you"

"I'm a Jew"

What are you?

"I'm a Christian"

Rant using the term African American. What do I call people of African decent with a melanistic persuasion, when they are not American? What about my Caucasian friend who immigrated to the USA from South Africa and became an USA citizen? He's also an African American. Why can't African Americans come up with a term they want to be called thats not fraught with these predicaments?

Yeah, it seems weird (for me, no offense) that people from the US call themselves "Americans", since it's a name of the whole continent (actually two or three, I was corrected in that other thread), but so far no other name has been invented, so people from the US has been called Americans all around the world :)

And for the record, I've never heard anyone down here refer to themselves as either "American" or "South American", they all use their country's titles (Chilean, Ecuadorian, Peruvian), just as Americans do when we call ourselves AMERICAN, considering the damn word "America" is in the name of our country. headbonk.gif People just like getting mad at Americans for dumb #######.

My husband just call me a mutt, because I'm only part Jutlander. At least I'm not as inbred. :bonk:

Actually they call me a Kanoy there. Kano being their term for foreigners and the added Y because I live and act like a Pinoy while there, which is what they call themselves.

I think people typically pull it from a generalization of 'asian'

But I feel that calling yourself "asian" is more when you're referring to caucasian, black, asian, etc.

Skin tone.

Because it isn't caucasian, black, yellow lmao

It's official - something is in my apartment. I don't know if it's a mouse or what but something just knocked over my thrashcan (effectively scaring the bejesus out of me) and my dog is going wild. wacko.gif I need the hubby to come home to get rid of whatever is lurking over there.

But if you want to refer to yourself as the name of the entire continent (IE European) then you can't abbreviate it to american.

You'd be NORTH american. or SOUTH american.

And no one better be seriously referring to themselves as american because they want to refer to the entire 2 continents.

That's called someone reaching just because they want to be right.

Next thing you know, you'll be calling people 'western hemispherian'

#### it, I'm earthian.

And in that case you'd never know what country they'd be from. If I called myself "North American" people might think I was Canadian.
