I wore a suit, and my husband wore dress shirt, pants, and tie but people at our location wore casual clothes. I wouldn't go there looking like you just went to the beach, but just look decent.

Husband was switching from Student Visa to Permanent Resident (in his last semester of his program)

10/29/2012 Sent Package (I-130, 485, 765, 864, and 131) to Chicago Lockbox via Priority Mail

11/1/2012 Arrived at Chicago Lock Box

11/6/2012 Received 4 Acceptance text messages and emails with receipt number

11/7/2012 Filing Fee Checks Cashed

11/12/2012 ASC Appointment Notice

12/06/2012 Biometrics Done in LA

01/02/2013 Received notice for Interview Appointment on 02/05/2013 (notice said to get medical complete as well)

01/22/2013 Received EAD card

01/26/2013 Went to USCIS approved Physician to complete medical, picked up results on 02/02/2013

02/05/2013 Interview at USCIS, Gave office medical results, Approved pending Affidavit of Support (originally I only included my mothers, but that day they said I had to include one as well even though I'm not working)

02/06/2013 Dropped off my Affidavit of Support to the office in LA, Finally Approved!!

02/14/2013 Received official letters

02/16/2013 Husband's Green Card Came in the Mail!!

Overall the process until approval took about 3 months. Not bad and didn't even have a lawyer.

They are judging your relationship, not your clothing. If you would be ashamed to wear certain clothes in front of your family or friends, don't wear them to the interview. Other than that, be comfortable, because you'll probably be sitting for an hour or so while you wait to be called in for your interview.

They know your financial status (they have paperwork on your taxes and your income in front of them) so you're not there to impress them with your style. Provided you're clean and clothed inoffensively, it won't count against you. :)

SO is necessary that the Fiancé must be present for the interview ?

If your eligibility to adjust status is based on marriage, both husband and wife are required to attend the AOS interview.

OP, we have our interview next month and I hadn't even thought about this. It's great that you brought it up...and an awesome excuse to go shopping

An exception to the "petitioner must attend the interview" is if they are currently actively deployed on US military service.
