My fiancee and I are in the process of the K1 visa . We still want some sort of wedding in the Philippines . Can this be done while in that process ? Could we be married in the Philippines and just have the United States not recognize the marriage ? Then just marry in the states within the 90 days period ? I want something for her family as well . I was thinking of a party , but maybe some sort of promise wedding ? Something with a pastor that can read some vows or something like that . Any ideas or help would be great ... Thanks

No no no. You can't have a wedding in the PH and then in the US if you want to file K-1 visa. You can have an engagement party in the PH but not under the guise that it is a wedding disguised as a engagement party. That is grounds for denial of K-1

Sent I-129 Application to VSC 2/1/12
NOA1 2/8/12
RFE 8/2/12
RFE reply 8/3/12
NOA2 8/16/12
NVC received 8/27/12
NVC left 8/29/12
Manila Embassy received 9/5/12
Visa appointment & approval 9/7/12
Arrived in US 10/5/2012
Married 11/24/2012
AOS application sent 12/19/12

AOS approved 8/24/13

Yes I was not planning on doing that until I knew the laws on it . We will go with the engagement party and have a pastor give a blessing as I think that will be good for the family . I am sure they will understand.. Thanks

Just be careful how your fiancee refers to it though, especially if asked during the interview. If she referred to it as a "wedding" instead of "engagement party", that might raise suspicion from the consul. Also, mind the pictures that you will submit. Having a "pastor" in the photos may send a wrong signal.

Thanks for the advice . We will be careful , but it will be an engagement party . The pastor is a close friend of the family and will be in plain clothes anyway . I already sent pictures in with the I129F . I am building a ongoing relationship from 02/12 though and will include pictures as well . I plan to be in the Philippines in late May early June and just spend the rest of the time there . I will take just basic pictures and be careful what I include . Did not think of that and thanks for that tip . I love this place it is so helpful!

Yes if a mention of a paster is there, you could be viewed as having an actual wedding disguised as an engagement party.
