Well, I don't know that Joel said that.

And we probably are fatter, but probably not so self-absorbed as all that.

The guys who are happier with subservient chicks have got problems though. If you date a woman who doesn't speak English natively or even well, you are automatically the one in power. If you date a woman half your age, same thing. That's what they like. Barf.

I find those people a little gross, TBTH.

Just a q, but if a white man dated a white woman half their age, to you does that also mean the man is the one with the power? Not sure if you meant it for all women in general.

Maybe its just Bmore, but most of the American girls my age that I see are nice & fit.

There seems to be a lot more Philopino immigrants (women) than those from other Asian countries....

Are they more attractive to American mem or what??

Very curious

I chose my wife cause I was sick of American woman and wanted something different I guess you could say with Family Values Family is very important in the Philippines and they don't believe in Divorce in fact they can't get divorced in the Philippines there is not the choice of getting Divorced and It makes them look bad to thier familys

Ok, the Philippines does not believe in divorce... but does the Philippines believe in punctuation? ;)

Yeah, I meant that. I meant that a large age gap often means the older person is more in control. The person with more money can also be in control, or the person who speaks the language fluently. And I'm not saying it's like this in all relationships; there are a million exceptions. But if you take a woman without a strong command of English AND who is economically disadvantaged AND who is half the husband's age, it seems clear that the guy gets off on being in control and having a submissive wife.

Which a lot of them downright admit to here on VJ.

I think most girls my age here (Minneapolis) are fit as well. But I guess that's not what the statistics say...

Joel, I'm not criticizing your POV, but what do you mean about there being an expectation of equality that makes it so they don't want a husband to stay at home? I just didn't quite get that.

Yeah...that came out poorly becuase I am finding it hard to put my experiance into words...let me give you an example of one women I dated. She was an exceutive at a local bank. She wouldn't mind having kids, but was instantant that her husband would not be the one to take care of them nor would she be willing to drop her career track. She wanted her husband to be on the same type of high level career track that she was on. As for the kids...well that is what nannies are for. And I didn't find her opinion that uncommon, assuming the woman wanted to have kids at all.

Does that make a little more sense? Maybe what I should take out of this is that I should have stopped dating the bankers and lawyers!

Anyways...*I* want a family. I also want both of us to have a career, but not at the expense of the family. I am willing (and would enjoy) being the one to slow down my career for focus on the kids, but I would like one of use to at least.

Finding someone with that balance was hard for me.

Joel

I can relate to your experience - my last significant relationship, she was a publishing editor, a year older than me, previously married but no kids. She was generous, sweet and loving towards my children but she had really grown accustomed to an independent lifestyle (her and her husband basically lived separate lives). I know now had we ended up marrying each other, we both would have been miserable. I am totally for equality with regard to careers but I have yet to see anyone come up with a magical formula on how two people can both pursue their careers ambitiously and raise a family. Even as a single father, I've passed up other job opportunities because I didn't want to uproot the kids. Marriage and family requires sacrifice and I understand the importance of a career but family should come first. Some women feel that is oppressive or unequal, but not if both the husband and wife are willing to sacrifice for the sake of the family, career wise.

Saying that, Jinky is a practicing dentist so it will interesting as to how we can manage our careers together while raising my 2 teenagers and her 5 year old. :star:

I don't think there's anything wrong with a power (or age) differential in a relationship, if that's what the participants want. I just think this all American women are this or that.. business gets a little tired. Same with the stereotypes of Filipinas and Russian women that get repeated here fairly often. Even worse is that these stereotypes are generally accompanied by some kinda moral judgement. ####### like American women are ambitious and assertive, and that makes them unnatural and unpleasant, Filipinas are submissive and that makes them stupid and weak, and the men who marry Filipinas are predators.. and so on and so forth. All that stuff is really unnecessary and unfair. People all have their own expectations and desires of a relationship. If two people find an arrangement that pleases them, good for them!

Yeah, I think people should be allowed to pursue any relationship that is beneficial to both parties. But I still think it's gross when the relationship isn't about equality. It's a bias and I'm definitely passing judgement, and to each his own, but it's still my natural reaction to people who essentially want a parent-child dynamic in their marriage.

What I find is that the people making the generalizations about American women are the same ones making generalizations about the Filipinas/Eastern Euro women they're marrying.

Phrases these people use, like "I chose my wife because..." or "I hope you are as happy with your Russian bride as I am with mine" (which I actually saw on here), kind of unnerve me.

I don't think it's a "both sides" thing... it's the same people with the stereotypes.

Everything has become a commodity these days, unfortunately...sigh. The trophy wife wasn't invented by Americans looking for foreign brides as eye candy. You should see all the botox and silicone bouncing around in Newport Beach. :o

WELL NO ITS JUST ALOT EASIER FOR SOME MAN TO BRING A ASIAN WOMAN THEN FOR A WOMAN TO BRING ASIAN MAN. That is fact. Ive seen american men bring asian woman 30 years difference in age no problem. I am usa woman trying to bring asian man 15 year difference well thats big problem. Mostly woman consulates denying them also. Thats what ive seen. I wish only men were aloud to be consulates maybe my honey would be here then. These woman consulates piss me off.

First, there are some absolutely wonderful American women with excellent qualities fit for marrying. They do exist like good men do exist despite what people say. As far as the Phil-Am phenomenon, well that’s simple. There is a spiritual loving humbling humility to all that they do, all that they are, and all they will become. The way in which they love and devote themselves is virtually unmatched here in the states. After visiting the Phil, I now totally understand why so many American men have gravitated towards such an awesome group of women. It’s a no brainer. I am presuming that it's the same with Candians and the UK since it appears many petitions are from those areas as well. However the men from the UK have the accent thing working for them (LOL)... Cheers!!!

 Well first off i'm a Thai who my husband said i'm not 100% Thai

I'm deffinately not submissive (it's a common steriotype for Asian women  ) But i'm extreamly easy-going and understanding -

In Thailand we have a saying that women is an Elephen's back legs - means that men can lead but if the back leg sit and wont move the elephen cant move anyway :P So that's more like my husband and I relationship.. I let him leads and make decision for us but I also contribute in the decision makeing (and ofcourse he always asked for my opinion so i dont feel like he's trying to boss me around)

We LOVE to cook and eat and we LOVE to have our time and some time to ourself (alone time) but ven we are spending sometime alone it doesnt feel like we are ignoring each other (which is what I love the most about us)

But also.. I dont clean  so our house would be messy - messier and then we would clean together once it gets messiest  (dont get me wrong.. messy and dirty is different) I deffinately hate ironing but will do laundry though  (coz Bram is too busy working so i have more time to do.. but it's not my job  )

So if someone say asian women are submissive and a good housewife (cleaning part) I guess I prove them wrong

It does sound like a recommendation for a used car, doesn't it? I hope you're as happy with your Chevy/iBook/bride. Gah.

well... then your american a$$ and my Thai as$ are the same size  I dont think American are fat at all.. just Asian usualy have very small bone and they build small... But you know.. in Thailand i'm an XL ;) I hate that - I still think our as$ is the perfect size anyway
