God willing I will be starting my new life with my husband in April, I guess the reality has finally started to set in and lately Ive found myself feeling scared and tearful. I NEED to be with my husband and miss him every minute, but the thought of leaving everyone/thing I know and love here feels overwhelming at times. My husband is so supportive he's said we will come back to the UK as much as we can afford, and if I need to get home for emergencies that won't be a problem.

My story has a difficult circumstance in which I am leaving my 14 year old son behind,he wishes to stay with his dad and I respect that. My parents are bringing him over for holidays and he'll soon be old enough to come visit alone.

How on earth do people cope leaving such important people?

Am I alone in feeling scared?

I guess as I pack and give away most of my stuff it just feels very real.

I haven't filed yet but I too will be leaving children behind, My 15 yr old daughter and my 10 yr old son for sure. My 7 yr old wants to come with me. I want to respect their wishes and would never force them to move against their wishes. I think that will be the hardest part. my Fiance is very supportive and says we will fly them here or I can go there for important events. He would never restrict me from my family. Things like skype are majorly inportant with such a big move. Thank goodness it exists.

I will be bringing most of my stuff with me but I will have to give the kids their things to keep at their dad's house, that will be the hardest.

You are a great parent, respecting your childs desires.

Wow, I honestly thought I was the only woman in the world that was doing this, please dont take this the wrong way but you have helped me so much just by sharing that you too have made the difficult decision to move to the States whilst your children remain with their father. The guilt is crippling me at the moment. I hope you can gain strength fro me knowing you aren't alone.

It isn't an easy decision. It goes against every fibre of my motherly being. But I want my kids to be happy, and dragging them against their wishes from everything they know, in my opinion, would be cruel. I have been told I am abandoning my children for my own happiness, that I am selfish to put my fiance above my children. But it isn't that at all. I am putting their happiness above everything by letting them choose where they live, and with who.

If you ever want to chat, feel free to send me a message. It always helps to have someone in a similar situation to talk to.

Nope, it doesn't work like that. You have to get it at Vonage.co.uk while you are in the UK and get a UK phone number, make arrangements to pay for it monthly, and bring the Vonage box with you. A US Vonage line calls the UK free but it's still a US phone number that is an international call for Lewis. If you get a UK phone number, then it's like Lewis calling anybody in the UK---no international dial codes because it's a local UK call that rings in the US because of Internet magic.

Just a point of clarification on Vonage. She can purchase the Vonage over here and add a virtual local # for UK callers. It also includes calls to not only landlines, but mobile lines, as well as being able to port it to your mobile phone so you get the same long distance services without the cost.

I don't want to sugarcoat this for you. If the guilt is crippling you now, it is going to get a million times worse when you are here. You need to have a budget set aside so you can go back or bring your son for a visit so you don't lose your mind. It's going to be hard. Very very hard. And the guilt will never go away. You will just find a way to live with it.

Thankyou for saying this.......you're right about the guilt and it's something my husband and I have discussed alot. I can return home whenever I need, there will always be money in the pot for that. Lew has gotten used to me being in the USA for 90 days every 6-12 months, we still talk everyday via Skype. we do his homework,we watch programmes together etc.....It will never be ideal but Lewis adores his father and has a wonderful life in the UK plus he has my mum and dad that dote on him!!!
