Proposed high-school football ban as controversial as you'd expect

10/26/2012 High-school football's days might be numbered if Paul Butler, a retired doctor from Dover, N.H., gets his way. He's proposed a ban on the American institution because of the potential dangers it poses to the skulls of its young players. Butler, himself a former high-school footballer, believes "we have a moral imperative to at least begin the process of ending this game," which he says "uses the head as a battering ram." Unsurprisingly, his idea has raised the hackles of the Dover High School board and the local newspaper, but Butler believes that if officials don't end high-school football, "lawyers will do it for us." I love watching American football! That being said, I believe that we are going to see a gradual change in the rules and equipment to lessen the very real risks of permanent neurologic damage the game entails as currently played. I think we would be much better off if we got on board with the rest of the world in embracing soccer as a dominant sport. While still a rough and very physical sport, the risk of brain damage is significantly less. At the same time it is far better exercise.

Americans like to be different. They're also one of the only (if not THE only) countries in the world who take words like favourite, labour, etc and remove the U.

It's a country of special snowflakes.
