What?? The "spade is a spade" saying was introduced into the English language in the 1500s and even that was taken from a translation dating back to BC times.. How is that racial?

Niggardly is also a racial insult. Who knew? All it takes is a little ignorant butthurt, and you can't use it anymore. You are assuming, for instance, that everyone that might be offended by being called a "spade" has the same forensic education that you do.

It's all in the niggling details.

not too long ago i said something about 'calling a spade a spade' and promptly got my chit jumped for being racist. and i had no idea that was racist.

Yeah, I had to spell that out in the PI forum a few months ago. Someone thought that the person who was calling a spade a spade was somehow implying that Filipinos were the African-Americans of Asia.

I feel odd even recounting that. It was very strange.

I learned today on one of the feminazi websites I like to read that I'm not supposed to call things "insane" or "crazy" any longer because it's disrespectful of the mentally ill. I went through the PC culture wars of the 90s and man, I thought we settled all this malarkey.

"Spade" was translated from "trowel" or "shovel" in the original saying - I've heard "call a spade a spade" in random conversations all my life and have never thought it meant anything but to speak the plain truth. I've never heard "call a spade a spade" in reference to race - ever.

I did not realize we added yet one more word to the "bad" list even when referring to a small gardening instrument. It really is as stupid as being offended by "Polly want a cracker?" or a dozen other sayings.

Of all the offensive sh*t that gets thrown around here on a daily basis, you guys sure know how to take something innocent and turn it the other way. Yikes.

That's how the game is played, here.

Glad you caught it. Hopefully you can act on it, aye?

"mental" is already becoming a bad word.

"Malarkey" still has a good 20 years left.

Are you ever going to enlighten me as to why my post was arrogant?

I can't say how 47% of people think.

It is the GOP's fault for not appealing to the other 53%.

The GOP is a divisive party. A "us versus you" type of party. A party that makes assumptions and uses stereotypes to alienate anyone who doesn't fit their line of thinking. The immigrants, the youth, the LGBT population, women, minorities, etc. They deem those voters to not matter, focus on their base, and are now losing elections for it because their base is growing smaller.

The GOP can continue on the way they have been, or they can be more inclusive and a little less radical. It might get them some more votes next time. We'll see.

Are you ever going to enlighten me as to why my post was arrogant?

You don't find that at all arrogant?

How is it arrogant to point out the GOP's failings in the last election? They lost because they did not work hard enough to include the voters that ended up voting for Obama. Women, minorities, etc. Where's the arrogance? They counted on the white male vote and that wasn't enough.

If members of the Republican party can agree and say essentially the same thing, I'm not sure how it's arrogant when I say it.

Yes, facts are arrogant.

Apparently.

What?

Here's a CNN article about why Romney lost:

http://www.cnn.com/2012/11/07/politics/why-romney-lost

Little support from young, minorities

Some answers are easy.

Romney lost embarrassingly among young people, African-Americans and Hispanics, a brutal reminder for Republicans that their party is ideologically out of tune with fast-growing segments of the population.

Obama crushed Romney among Hispanic voters by a whopping 44 points, a margin of victory that likely propelled the president to victories in Nevada, Colorado and possibly Florida.

The stunning defeat alarmed Republicans who fear extinction unless the party can figure out how to temper the kind of hardline immigration rhetoric that Romney delivered during his Republican primary bid.

Not much different than what I said. Republicans do not include the people they need the votes from. They scare them away. They count on their base and their base is no longer enough.

If that's arrogance, then fine. But it's reality.

CNN is arrogant. MSNBC is even more arrogant. PBS is snooty. FNC has the best looking female personalities in short skirts and uses low camera angles until about 2 pm west coast time.

Should've known better. Forget it.
