Howdy everyone :)

I have heard great things here and from other people about Lufthansa and I'm thinking that I'll book with them. After looking at their website and trying to figure out how it will be on the flight, I see that the first and business class have screens inset in the seats in front of each passenger with all sorts of entertainment, but I didn't see any mention about us poor economy class flyers. Does anyone have any experience with Lufthansa flying economy class?

Also, if the plane seems somewhat empty (please please please), do you have any advice for trying to get into business or first class after the plane is in flight?? :D

Thanks

I flew w/ Lufthansa years ago... but I flew to Germany 3 times with United. In the economy section they have screens inserted in the seat in front of you. Just have to make sure the plane is a Boeing 777. The seats are pretty comfortable and leg room is not bad, I'm short though...

As for getting in business or first class after the plane is in flight, I don't know if that is possible. Hope someone else can answer that for you.

BTW, with united you could apply for a membership and accumulate miles, which you can use in future flights. Right now I have more than enough to get a free flight within the US.

I love Air France. Why you gotta be doggin' my airline?

Haven't flown Lufthansa in a while (Usually it's a little out of the way) but you will be comfortable and treated well. They are competative with the updates all the airlines have been doing.

Just don't like their 20euro/kg overweight fee;and, the transfers in Paris via bus;and, that dang window roof...with the 500 euro I gave them for overweight luggage, you'd think they could purchase shades fortheir glass windows at the gate so you wouldn't melt  Besides the ticket price for AF is not cheap. My in-laws will be flying Lufthansa -- much cheaper and less transfer hassles.

I would say definitely fly Air France, they are extremely punctual and their staff memebers are delightful.

In Paris, I'd agree. Bucharest? Forgettaboutit!!!I was 3 months pregnant with my hands full with carry on bags and they kept shouting ahead of me to run behind them to catch the plane. Could they help me?

Well after flying for many years on several airlines, I have finally settled with Lufthansa as my internation carrier.I really enjoy their service and precise schedules. I have flyer plan, where I actually do get my points...which have gained me 3 upgrades already.

Also they are offering FREE in flight Internet until Dec 31 to kick off their new net service. After dec 31 will be a flat rate.

Econo class is quite good compared to other carriers i have been on... on Interntaional flights over the Atlantic...2,4,2 seating arrangements, while shorter flights are the usual 3 and 3 seating. The seating is not bad compared to continental flights...more room...but still you are a bit crammed in. Bathrooms in seperation between econo and business class...i remember about 12 WCs.

Multiple meals are served as well as 4-6 rounds of beverages on the flight from the US to Frankfurt.

In the econo class there is overhead TV screen for every 3 rows of seats...with indivual standard earphones which are free (not all carrier offer this free unforunately) 24 music channels are offered, including arabic and tamil stations. 2 films are shown along with news and cartoons.

The business class seating is like a enclave...you have much more leg room then in econo of course and there is like 2,2,2 seating in the aisles...each seat has own tv screen, laptop hookup, wirintg table .

The first class is elusively 3,3 seating...which you recline out like a lazy boy...a very nice sleeper...with same amenties as business class.

In both of these classes, special meals are served, prepared by some chef in Dubai, of course better beverages are served .On demand Tv shows and films, stock info and mobil fon use (i believe)

The prices I cannot tell you since I never have paid for a upgrade yet...but the ticket prices are running about $1000 to Algerie and Tunis, so probably not much more to Egytpe Melly...

FYI:

Flights to MENA from Frankfurt leave only like bi-daily or just daily, so you have to wait abit...but its ok have alot to do that.

BE friendly with yout attendant, they seem to love freindly people and go out of their way to make feel comfortable...like the attendant charged my laptop for me (while I was in econo class , not bus/1st) and i got alot of virgin mixed drinks (yea!) and got 2 hot snacks intead of 1...(yea)~!

The wait in Frankfurt can be long and expensive, but if you look around at their tons of boutiques, ride the O and S bahn couple times...the time passes quick...and as far as dining...best bet is to skip the cafes and go downstairs to the metro gateway and do a little shopping at the City market...I bought like a whole pilot case full of chocolates for like 20 euros (thats like 30 chocolates)...great for gifts! And they offer Milks, Nestle, Cote dÓr (the best), Kinder, etc...all the good chocolates. costed more cheaper then if I were to outside into the city centre...but ALOT cheaper then buying it inside the airport (upstairs)...got myself a cheese sandwich, pretzel, 3 bottles of water, a apfelkuchen (apple cake) for about 5 euros...cannot bet that.

You can buy meats, vegetables, fruits, chocolates, beverages, make-up (good idea since you cannot bring liquids onto the US flights), dry foods like cookies, chips, shampoo, cremes, etc...so basically everything...it is like a Super Walmart or what they have in Europe Tesco...has everything...(but beware bring shopping bags with you if you plan to buy gifts,...they donnot offer bags (as most European shoppes donnot) and charge ,25 euro for a bag. Also beware once returning the airport, you must have drank your beverages..creme, etc are ok...as long as not opened.

I would stay away from the sit down cafe (you will see it, its the white and black chic looking one, where they charge you about 5 euros for a esspresso, also stay away from Starbucks... ouch! Very expensive and their serving sizes are like 1/3 of the ones in the US for the same, if not more...

If you want to some sightseeing I have suggestions for that too, if you like...

anywho have fun! (F)

I was about to say...are we talking about the same Air France...I have had nothing but trouble with them. I used them 3 times, and that is it...no more...I donnow care if I happen to catch a deal.

I would say definitely fly Air France, they are extremely punctual and their staff memebers are delightful.

psych!

I've never had problems with Lufthansa RE: DFW-Frankfurt-Cairo. I don't have a long layover and only do a little duty free shopping on the way home. Don't want to change money to get euros just for a cup of coffee, hehe, I love coffee but I'll live without it. I bring snacks to eat and drink my water (if I manage to carry on).

I never have been able to get upgraded on Lufthansa. I have enough miles so the ticket counter agent told me to try to get upgraded at the gate. I got to the gate and there was more than one of us trying to get an upgrade and the agent was waving her hands saying "no upgrades" . I guess they were fully booked in business.

Yep, coach can be a big pain in the B***, but maybe you can get an aisle seat in the middle section and if no one sits next to you, then you can spread out. It is almost guaranteed that the window seats are all taken and I have now decided I like the aisle because I want to get up more than many ppl. But service is efficient, flight attendants are generally nice and the food is not so bad (could be much worse) . . . I just keep wondering if I should order a special meal because they always get their food first. :D

All the flights I've had on Lufthansa in economy did not have the video/tv screens (whatever) in the back of the seats. Probably depends on the equipment they are flying on that route. The flights I had to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific did and that is much nicer for sure.

Oh, and I'd check the carry-on restrictions again. I flew American a couple of weeks ago and all my liquids were carried on in a plastic bag that you had to pull out and send thru the x-ray separately.

Tell them you are pregnant. :P That worked with me (of course I really was pregnant). The seats recline into a bed (with massager!)

I flew Lufthansa to Frankfurt Germany and then on to Amman Jordan and they had the best food. They were great at serving me, better than Royal Jordan. They have entertainment, you can watch tv, listen to music, but there are no tv's in the back of the seats in economy. I flew with them August, 2005.
