I want a wedding in the UK and live in the US

My finance is from the US, I'm UK and I really want to get married in the UK but I don't want to wait a year for the spouse visa. Could I have some sort of ceremony in the UK but not get married, but walk down the aisle etc. and still get the K-1 visa to marry in the US so we can live there.

I think if we don't actually sign marriage forms in the UK it should be ok, but I'm not sure. Any advice would be great.

You are still going to be waiting about a year for a K1 visa anyway. Also most on this website advise that having any kind of ceremony even if it is not legal jeapordises your Visa if you do decide to go down the K1 route. You need to read the guides here fully before making your decision on how best to proceed for you.

Good luck with your journey

The time difference for the fiancé or spouse visa is not significant really. Cr1 visa is cheaper and better. Of course if you need a year to plan your UK wedding, you won't start the process until it is concluded, so that is a time factor.

A "fake" wedding may be deemed real if any photos of you are seen. USCIS has admitted to using social media to check out people. Can you keep comments and photos off social media and keep your friends from posting such or tagging you? It may be unlikely that anyone will find out, but something to think about.

Although the desire to have a form of ceremony that your UK family and friends can attend is understandable, I agree with most of the other posts. Don't have a ceremony that may cause you problems in the long run.

After you have arrived in the US, and adjusted your status (ie obtained your green card), you can return to the UK have a blessing and wedding reception.

Good luck!
