Medicaid and other social assistance

I am the USC and DH is a 10 year green card holder. He's activated his visa and gotten the green card and we're actually moving next month. I just have a question for once we're there.

We have a 19 month old daughter together. She is a USC(has her CRBA/US passport) - if we apply for Medicaid for her will that affect my parents who signed on to support my husband if he can't find work? Likewise for myself if I become pregnant before we have settled with jobs and health insurance will I be allowed to apply for Medicaid? I know that if he applies for social assistance then my parents are responsible, but my daughter and I weren't included on that.

Obviously our preference is that we would find work right away, but I'm just trying to have a bit of a back up plan in place just in case.

Thanks!

It was my understanding that the only restrictions on means tested benefits was for the PR not for any US citizens.

So, you and your daughter could for instance, get food stamps, but you would need to make sure that they didn’t include your husband.

You and your child are a US citizens and therefore entitled to any benefit any other US citizen is entitled to.

Your husband CAN NOT use these benefits so you are to ensure that he is not counted on anything. Any income he earns is counted, but he is not counted in household count. Also be aware YOU will pay back the government before your parents. You are his primary sponsor.
