Do our friends must provide their social security numbers on the letters?

Why this is so important? What purpose does SSN serve?

We don't like to put my friends in a uncomfortable place to reveal their SSN.

No they do not have to provide SSN numbers on the letters.

We did not include any SSN numbers but did include telephone and address on the letters of the people. With a statement that USCIS can feel free to call or mail the person for more information.
