Hi,

My visa was approved yesterday at my interview :) Just waiting on the courier now to deliver it to me!

I have a few questions about POE. What happens when you go through immigration? Might sound a silly question but do you get taken into a room and asked any more questions? Any other documents I should carry in my hand luggage?

Also, how long after I arrive in the US will my green card be sent to me? Does this happen automatically or do i have to apply for it?

I hope I have posted this question in the right forum.

Many thanks for your advice as always!

Sometimes people are taken to another room sometimes they aren't it depends on how the POE works and what POE you enter at, which you don't say.

They have a new fee you have to pay before you leave the country when you have your visa - if you don't pay the fee you wont get your green card.

My POE was San Francisco. I managed to beat a long line of immigrants coming off an Air India flight thank goodness, so for me it was a very quick wait.

He took my biometrics again like they do on entry to the USA, he asked me about where I was going to be living, which was the same as in my packet. He opened it, had a look through it, stamped some documents, gave me a slip of when I'd have to remove conditions (as I'm under a CR-1), wrote on my envelope that my husband was having to move abroad with the military so I think they processed my green card a little faster.

I received my green card about 3 weeks after arrival in a normal envelope (I was sure it'd come by courier!). I got in just before the fee change though, so not sure if that will make a difference.

Seriously, I was worried about it but the guy was cool and although people say be serious etc, I'd just come off a 14 hour flight so we had a couple of jokes. It was way less stressful than the interview.

Good luck!

Documents: passport and the brown envelope in your hand luggage.

If you get taken into secondary, it isn't a bad thing. It is just to keep the general line moving and give you a place to sit and wait for the officer working on immigrant packages. If you look at the menu bar and click POE, you'll find Dublin and can read what others have written about their POE.

at POE, they will just take your picture, finger prints, asking for the packet that you receive from the US embassy, he/she might ask where do you intend to live, what is your sponsor/ fiance's name and contact number. Don't open the yellow packet. your passport and the yellow packet will be in one transparent plastic. just take your passport and whatever may happen don't open the yellow packet because you might not be allowed to enter USA if it's open. they will ask you if you know the process and if you don't, they will just simply remind you that, that was on my case but I'm pretty sure that it would be all the same. my POE was in Honolulu. Security were so friendly. about your green card it's up to your case. If you are coming to US as fiancee/fiance, you need to get married in 3 months and submit your adjustment of status to homeland security and that's another process again. getting a green card is not instant :)

About your hand Luggage, put every important thing, like the yellow packet, your money, birth certificate and other important documents. IF you have laptop you should carry it with you and never put in your baggage.

Just relax when you arrive at your point of entry and especially talking to the officer in charge of your case.
