we have a mole problem. There is like 5 of them. Some smart soul told my mother that she should pee in the holes they dig (sorry for the grossness)....it did not help. So now she only stands outside with a shovel and whacks them.

Back to remedies: so there is this thing that sometimes grows in the corner of the eye (no idea how its called). It happened to my father so again my mom went to ask around what to do and was told that you have to spit in the person's eye but it has to be a surprise else it won't work.

My father was not happy but it worked. We still don't know if it was the spit or not so if anyone tests it let us know. :wacko:

Mole problem, no solution...

Eye problem. I think you're referring to a "stye". I'm not trying that remedy that you have.......

That is some old country. I like the rock wall. Those are rare around here, and usually posted "Do not remove rocks, or you will be arrested!"

Yea I have about a thousand feet of stone walls. From what I understand, they were put up for pastures (informed by a 5th generation neighbor). It's still difficult for me to grow an orchard tho lol... That's in Sullivan county NY, near Monticello. Where is your general location? if you don't mind me asking.

My dad swore by juicy fruit gum. I've never tried it, but the home remedy can be found on the 'net.

Some old garden remedies for those who home garden and some home remedies:

When you plant your tomatoes, put some dried skim milk powder in the hole before you add in the plant. It's supposed to help protect the tomatoes from any type of bacterial or viral wilt;

To get rid of slugs- put a small dish with beer in it out at night. The slugs will be attracted to the beer and drown (good use for old stale beer - don't need to waste the good stuff)

To prevent bugs entering the house - put a barrier of garden or lab grade (not pool grade) diatomaceous earth in a 6 " wide barrier all around the foundations of the house

To prevent ants re-entering the house, wash down all of the surfaces (floors, counters, etc.) with vinegar to remove their little scent trails. Wipe the carpeted areas with a 50% water/vinegar solution as well. Mix salt with boiling water and spray it along the baseboards where they entered.

To kill ants inside or outside, sprinkle quick cooking grits (yep, grits) in the area where will ingest it. Apparently, when they drink water, the grits will swell and the ants digestive system will rupture. You can sprinkle the grits over ant hills outside as well. (Don't know if it is supposed to work with fire ants though - I might give it a try).

One of my Mom's old remedy for a sore throat - put Vick'sVapoRub on the throat area, then wrap a piece of red flannel around the throat , pin it and leave it there for 3 or 4 days

to correct spelling

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
