Greetings VJers,

Does the birth certificate I need to send for the AOS (form I-485) need to be a particular "version" of this document, for example a copy of the folio? My wife has a certified copy of her birth certificate, but it is the "short" version, only basic info without her parent's names.

I want to make sure I have the right one translated.

If I need to have the longer version (folio), we can have it sent from Colombia, but that will take about a week and I'm ready to send off the AOS application asap.

As far as delays are concerned (possible RFEs, etc.), would it make more sense to go ahead and send the copy we have (which is, as far as I can tell, an certified copy of her birth certificate), or take the extra time to have the copy of the folio sent?

I apologize in advance if this is question that's been answered a lot on VJ, but I tried doing searches here and looked carefully at the instructions for form I-485 and also on the USCIS website, and all it says is "copy of birth certificate" without any further details.

Thanks a lot Guys,

As far as I am aware, you need to send in a copy of her full birth certificate, translated if necessary. Just like the one you would of sent with the k-1 if you went through that process.

2-28-2009 Sent in I-751

3-14-2009 Received I-751 back because they can't read

3-16-2009 Re-Sent I-751

3-17-2009 Received by Vermont

Waiting and watching the calendar flip ever so over closer to 4-2-2009 (When my 2 yr GC expires) . . .

4-2-2009 Received I-751 back AGAIN! Oh and my GC expired today.

4-3-2009 Re-Sent I-751

4-4-2009 Received by Vermont

4-6-2009 Date of NOA-1 Extension Letter (Rec'd 4/13/09)

4-10-2009 Check Cashed

4-24-2009 Date of Biometrics letter (Rec'd 4/30/09)

5-11-2009 Biometrics Appointment in Louisville.

Hi, I think is better for you to send the full version of the birth certificate, translated if necessary..

You know I also had a similar situation as I do not have a full birth certificate. I sent in the abbreviated one. I didn't get anything back from them yet....but they did lose some stuff and put a typo in my EAD.

I'll let you know if I hear back from them...

thanks,

Alan

i am a foreigner and my birth certificate only shows my first name and middle name but has everything else, my birth date, parents first name and middle name.

would that cause a RFE ??
