No, the situation is much better in that case. Then it's "just" material misrepresentation to gain immigration benefit, which is waivable. Still lawyer territory.

I had made a mistake and worked off-campus for 2 months in one summer 7 years ago using my own ssn. I received w2 and taxes were taken from the pay check. I am going to check the box for unauthorized work on i485 form.

I realize, I am a grave error in judgement just pay rent for 2 month.  Can anyone tell me what is going to happen when i file i485 (employment based)? Will they deny it outright or do I have a chance to explain?

You should not worry about it. What is your current status? H-1B? Generally the USCIS only looks to violations that happened since the last status change. And for employer based green cards if the status violation has to be more than 180 days to be considered.
