Do Atheists have an emptiness which needs filling?

I think I've chased away the ones that show up in my neighborhood now. My wife being the very polite person she is, would sit and talk with them even though she has no interest in being converted away from the Catholic faith. She asked how to get them to stop, and I said just tell them to go away, that you have a religion and have no interest in talking to them, then close the door. She asked me to do it, and after a couple weeks they stopped showing up at our house, but I still see them in the neighborhood.

There are atheists in your neighborhood that go door to door? Really?

You believe wrong. I swear, sometimes you guys read things that nobody said. Show me where I said everyone included in that poll lied. I didn't. I said I don't trust the poll results to be accurate because some people lie, especially when it comes to making themselves look better. SOME PEOPLE is not EVERYONE. Please.

I'm not even talking about the OP anymore. I'm talking about the FURTHER claim that atheists are fat, lonely, depressed men.

There are plenty of happy, healthy religious people. There are also plenty of healthy, happy non religious people. To take one group and claim they're the unhealthy ones is ignorant and incorrect.

Plenty of people care. Plenty of people lie to polls or surveys to make themselves sound better. Not a lot of people will admit how unhealthy they are.

How many people are going to tell strangers over the phone that they eat like sh*t and never get off the couch?

OK you didn't say everyone, but it appeared you were insinuating most would lie.

As to getting people to answer a poll correctly, a lot is in the questions asked. I'm sure if they asked do you eat like ###### and never get off the couch, they would not have gotten many yes answers. But pollsters know this, that is why they're very careful in how they ask their questions. Heck I get political pollsters asking me questions where I need to pick an answer where none of them are my view, but I'm supposed to pick one. Firms like Gallop do not do this. Polling is a science they take seriously, and getting them wrong means they go out of business or go work for biases sources. So their questions are set up to double check the validity of earlier answers given by the respondent.

I also don't think Danno came straight out and said atheists are fat, lonely, depressed men.

I think that less men are church goers and religious is fairly well known and easy to look up. Maybe finding out if the numbers of agnostic as to atheist men and women are probably out there to.

I'm not so sure where he got the atheists are lonely and depressed. Maybe from the study that showed thankful people are happier, and since people that pray tend to give thanks is prayer they are happier as a whole? Now I'm just guessing here, I haven't bothered to look it up.

As to are atheists fatter? Well this poll suggested maybe they would be, if they ate less healthy. As to lying in the poll, if you even want to assume they did, why would religious people lie more than atheists? Isn't it religious people after all that believe lying is a sin?

Just thinking about atheists at the door though,

Atheist: Have you heard the word of nothing lately?

Me: Sure we get politicians on the TV all the time

Atheist: No the word of Nothing! No God, No Heaven, No Hell

Me: You're going to go to Hell for saying that. Its over that way, at Michelle Bachmann's campaign office.

danno:

i have to say, from your questions you have a weak understanding of atheists.

why do you think non religious people aren't as thankful as religious?

why do you think non religious people think lying is okay? atheists have morals, they don't have a god. there's a huge difference.

I was just trying to guess where Danno got that thinking from.

Complete quote line

"I'm not so sure where he got the atheists are lonely and depressed. Maybe from the study that showed thankful people are happier, and since people that pray tend to give thanks is prayer they are happier as a whole? Now I'm just guessing here, I haven't bothered to look it up."

Did he read they study, or maybe read an interpretation of study that twisted the meaning? I do recall the study said something along the lines being thankful in prayer or just taking to time to be thankful each day didn't seem to matter in the level of happiness reported. I do not recall if they bothered looking into the difference in total numbers based on belief.

I also don't go around with the belief that atheists have no morals, just as I don't assume someone with faith always has morals. Believe me, I've met plenty of religious people I wouldn't trust further than I could throw them, and atheists I would trust with my life.

This thread has scientifically proven one thing:

Anti-theists lie, because they hate God, and have no fear of Him.

The same is true of monotheists. They hate other Gods and have no fear of Them...

Only thing proved is you have no concept of what 'science' means!
