I am going to come to US with J-2 VISA after my husband who has been taking a neuro-medication here and wondering if I would get a work permit right the way at the airport if I arrived US at JFK? I don't want to be depressed and stuck at home because I couldn't get a job and keep myself busy when I get here. Please help! =D

You can apply for work authorization through USCIS (not at the airport). It will take 2-3 months to receive it.

No, you will not get it at the airport and it fact it is not certain you will get it at all.

So it must be only for the K-1 who could get it right the way at the JFK then?

no, the k-1 takes just as long. With a cr-1 spouse visa the beneficiary has authorization to work in the US as soon as their passport is stamped at a US POE, but they still need to wait a few weeks for a social security card and number.

Well... that doesn't sound so bad then. She( my friend, the one in this topic) just hope wheather she could get it as fast as it possible. I don't know how to explain if if one day you have to transform from the super busy person who work everyday, enjoy your life and then one day you needed to stay at home because you couldn't get a job.

She should find there is a lot to do to even be prepared to have a job in the USA. The only reason to stay at home would because you arent ready for the new place you find yourself in. For example getting to and from that new job. Driving, banking, ect. There is plenty to do.

I see we went from " I " to my friend so mabey you can pass this info along to her. If she thought for example she could get off the plane and get her EAD or green card she must have a lot to learn. That should keep her busy for awhile.

Sorry for late reply nakah, Ning. Thank you so much for your opinion. I don't think she will apply for any other things since right now their plan still be getting back to Thailand after her husband finish the neuro-medical certification from US. And we finally have the idea what to do after she gets here. She is going to take a short course to be the pharmacist assistant which would take about 6 months and take the examination to get the license to work here. It must not be hard for her since she has been a pharmaceutical representative for years and graduated from the faculty that she needed to memorized a whole book before. We just hope! On top of that it would not so bad since she is going to take the class and hopefully she will be the intern at the hospital that her husband has been studying right now too.

These are good ideas. Have her look into Pell Grants to help pay for her classes. This is what my husband had me do and it worked very well.

I have no idea why I couldn't reply from phone so I decided to turn on my little MacBook today. Thank you so much for your information. I talked to her about that program you mentioned earlier and she said she heard about that too. But the problem was the hospital that would have the free program or scholarship or something like that wasn't the hospital where her husband has been taking course right now. She must taking the one at the same hospital to safe gas and the other expense.
