What is the problem with Juarez!

It seems that Juarez is a bit backwards on how to run their consulate. Other countries seem to fly through the process at ludicrous speed when compared with CDJ. First you have to wait 9 months and then when you call them they tell you that you have to wait 4 more months. When you finish that waiting period you can call again and then you have to wait another 4 months. What is causing this huge delay?

My personal thoughts are that they are under staffed. There are too many applicants submitting for visas to give everyone a quick interview date.

Others have suggested that the USA is racist and doesn't want any more Mexicans in their country. To keep them out the government is intently increasing the waiting times to force Mexicans and their counterparts to give up trying.

If it is just that they are understaffed then they should hire more people. I have been to the CDJ consulate and it isn't very big. We were all packed in there like sardines. It also took almost the entire day to get the visa... but we got it (K1 visa). Adding more officers to interview couples wont help because there isn't really a lot of space to add them. Opening a new consulate would be better.

It is somewhat of a pain to see how bad that consulate has become.

At whose expense? Different Consulates go through different cycles depending on volume. Some have consistantly been on that long of a wait (see China).

you are right.. and I am not sure how the money is divied up for the application fees. I was imagining that a portion is directed towards the consulate the applications will ultimatly go through. If that is the case then it would mean there is a huge amount of money already available.. since the backlog is 9+months.. that is a lot of application fees. Again, before I get flamed, I am stating that I don't know how the consulates are funded. An extra 1 million dollars a year could hire a lot of extra bodies. It isn't too costly even at a loaded rate.

CR1s are taking long time to process from China, Islamabad, CDJ and Middle East as well. It is all depends on whom is being petitioned, if you have name hits and you have to remember the AOS is being done so no worries of EAD once you arrive in states.

Hang in there and I can honestly say it was 18 months from our marriage until he was safe and home in USA.

I HEAR YA TROY. I CAN'T EVEN GET A FINGERPRINT CLEARANCE DONE. THEY WON'T EVEN TELL ME WHERE MY CASE IS. NOW I HAVE MY SENATOR AND USCIS INQUIRING INTO CDJ FOR ME.

CDJ IS NOT ON A GOOD LIST RIGHT NOW. I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH CDJ SINCE MAY AND MY CASE DOESN'T EVEN INVOLVE ANY WAIVERS.

The CDJ consulate is understaffed. The director has often participated on attorney Laurel Scotts's chats and has talked about how difficult the process is to get approval to hire new people. A few weeks it ago a listserve regarding immigration posted that CDJ was hiring more people and that it *should*have some impact on processing times. They are relocating in the next few weeks. They are also said to be the busiest consulate in the world, processing the largest number of applications for family based immigration. Their staff does not seem to be at all well trained and has a reputation for providing incorrect and inconsistent information. None of this will help you feel any better - it's just what I have read and learned myself dealing with them.

I heard that they can only do 10 CR1 appointments a day. If this is true do you know if the extra officers will add more slots to the CR1 process? Or will it be going to some other visa slots? I am not sure if anyone has any information on this. It would be cool if they were there to fullfill the demand for a specific visa... as long as it is the visa I am going for

I'm sure they do more than 10 a day - it doesn't take that long. No way to know what the extra personnel will be assigned to but I guess it's a good sign that they were able to get the new staff in the first place.
