In the past, I have used USPS but it takes a long time for the boxes to arrive. I was in Far East Russia and had boxes shipped from USA. It would take 3-6 weeks for the boxes to arrive. Once, I had box shipped express USPS and it still took 4 weeks.

If you think FedEx is too expensive then why not just pay a few hundred dollars more and pack them in your suitcase and take them there yourself? Yes, it is expensive to ship via FedEx, but I have never had problems with customs or the item not arriving and it usually took about 7 days for normal delivery. I wanted someone who has a good relationship with the customs people without paying for any "extra services" (i.e. brides). I guess you need to decide which is most important, money, speed, reliability and pick one.

I spent $200 just to ship the documents for the Consulate phase back and forth and I've spent upwards of $300 for gifts. I also spent $50 for an over weight bag and then ended up paying $240 due to airlines rules when my flights got changed due to weather. Still it was cheaper than FedEx.

Well first of all, I am not going there. We're just sending boxes to my wife's parents. Also, USPS is about $70 to $130 depending on the size and weight. FedEx and UPS are complete rip offs. $400 to ship? Are you kidding me? Greedy bastards. I could just Western Union the money and have them buy stuff there =)

But thank you for the advice!

I will check out meest. I heard they are good

Thanks!

to send a duplicate of my K-1 petition to my fiancee to Vladivostok from California...

note that, this is for a stack of papers, maybe 25-40 sheets?

FedEx: $100

USPS: Priority Flat Rate envelope (i forgot but it was a LOT cheaper) took exactly 3 weeks to arrive.

Look at parcelbound online calculator.

parcelbound.com

You can track even priority mail. It is best way to send parcel to the Russia.

This kind of parcels have had a tracking number and it cheaper than Express mail.

I prefer Priority to big items that I bougth at E-bay

Good question. I shipped a package to Samara January 18th of this year and she just got it yesterday. Hard to believe it took that long and it was a small package and under 4 pounds to. I have sent some in the past that got there pretty fast, 1-1.5 months but not sure why this one took so long? That was USPS

They are rated "F" with the BBB, that seems like just too big of a risk IMHO.

If anyone works for a company that does a lot of shipping check with your shipping department to see if you can get the corporate rate on shipping. A company I used to work for let me do this and it saved something like 60% on FedEx shipping to Russia. Even if you can't do that set up a FedEx account so you'll be able to save a few % over the regular rate.

what if I want to send a ,"memory stick"....

If we make videos and put them on a flash drive... would there be any customs problems ?? and then what shipping company would be best to handle this..??

last year, my fiancé send me some documents from Russia to USA. she paid extra for the tracking and for to required signature for release....after about 6 weeks I still had not received her package. She had it tracked, and it was just sitting in a Moscow post office.... after her inquirer, I received it in about 2 weeks.
