Greetings,

I was hoping to use the collective wisdom of this forum to help shed some light on any potential issues with my application.

I have my AOS interview tomorrow.

I started dating my DH in January 2010, and he moved in with me in September 2010. We're the usual happy loving couple, vacations together, comingling of friends, and I spend the holidays with his family.

We married in August 2012 and started the greencard process (we were originally going to move back to my country) BUT we didn't tell our families. They think we are getting married later this year, in 2 separate, big, expensive knees-up celebrations in each of our countries (USA and my home country).

The reason behind this is that 7 years ago I was working in the US & fell in love. We got married 6 years ago, I started the greencard process and my company gave me a visa so I could work in the US whilst doing the paperwork. Shortly after I moved over, the marriage started to fall apart so I abandoned the process, moved out and divorced my DH.

Question 1: How should we handle the issue of our multiple weddings in the AOS interview? I eloped with my last husband, and it devastated my friends and family and I don't want to do that to them again, so none of my folks back home know I'm already married. And dammit, I want a proper wedding! DH wanted a proper shebang as well, so whilst his sister knows, his mom and dad don't (and both our parents are paying a small fortune for the receptions). Between us, we consider ourselves married. We refer to each other as husband and wife, we have insurance on each other, we do everything a normal married couple does, we're just planning 2 weddings along with it!

Question 2: Is the fact I abandoned the last AOS attempt going to factor into the decision? When I renewed my L-1B visa last time the consular official noticed my greencard application and tried to talk me into finding another way to get a greencard but I wasn't planning on staying until DH and I started looking at our options.

Thanks everybody!!

PS - Super excited! It's going to be great to get on with our life together without the worry of us having to move back to my country prematurely, because if the GC doesn't go through, he's coming home with me. We went back last April and he fell in love with the place (beaches, beer and good food) so we're going to be together regardless.

PS - I'm adjusting from my L1-B but not sure if that's relevant.

Travelfairy- Really happy to hear that you didn't have any problems at your interview! Sounds like everything went very smoothly. I'm also happy to hear that your first marriage wasn't an issue. I've been having some anxiety about our interview in March because of the whole first marriage situation (recently another Sept filer was denied at 2nd interview & first marriages were scrutinized). One never knows or can predict what things they might ask or harp on.

I think because I stopped the greencard process when the marriage fell apart, it wasn't considered an issue. I'm pretty sure my interviewer had gone through my file with a fine toothcomb though before we came in. Also, my I-94 was valid until 2015. And honestly? I'm an Australian getting a greencard in Minnesota - they are probably amazed I would choose to live here over the beaches and sunshine back home. :-) Can't be anything but love. ;-)

Also - didn't meet the DH until after the divorce was final, so no overlap. And we dated for 3 years before marrying.

I'm just so happy and relieved. I feel that a weight has been lifted and we can get on with our lives. I was worried that some small administrative error might trip us up or something might be misinterpreted, but now we can concentrate on the future. Or, as my DH put it, I can swap it out for something new to worry about. LOL

WIll keep checking back to see how your interview goes!!!

BTW - My DH insisted he wasn't nervous, and it was going to be fine, and I didn't need to be as prepared as I was, yet he didn't sleep the night before, and didn't want to talk about our upcoming trip to Australia in the car. He said "Let's just concentrate on the topic at hand." So of course, he was nervous but wouldn't admit it. Though he wouldn't be unhappy about moving back to Australia if I had to go.
