Hopefully you won't have to go to Montreal. I booked my interview last week and the earliest that I can get is May 21st! Terrible.

OP is lucky and going through Vancouver. Montreal can be a scheduling nightmare.

Beware of reading horror stories the wrong way. Most of the time the real truth is not told in those sorts of reports - the people in the situation are either lying or cannot see why their look suspicious (but usually lying). For someone new to immigration, it can look scary and overwhelming, but just from the facts that she is from Canada, you see each other a lot, and you are close in age, tells me that most, if not all, of the situations in the horror stories won't apply to you.

good.gifI agree, you are only reading the horror stories. My husband and I had many red flags and we managed to get through the process without a lawyer and without any RFE's. I can remember how overwhelming the process seemed before we started, as long as you follow the guides here, and ask questions if you need to, you should be fine. Good luck.

It sounds like I got very lucky with her living closer to Vancouver.

You are probably right about those stories. Coincidentally I never could find any about the process with Canada. I know that we have a genuine relationship, but it shook me to read others had a "genuine" relationship but were denied.

In the instance if someone was denied and does indeed have a true relationship, what do they do? Sounds like a punch in the stomach.

It depends on the country they're from, sadly. Some countries have high numbers of visa fraud, so genuine relationships are scrutinized and sometimes not believed.

Canada is one of the easiest countries to come from going through this process, so don't worry. It will not be a problem for you.

You've given me so much more confidence in this process. Thank you from the both of us. :-)

I think this is my last question for now. I've read conflicting information online that you find out after the interview if you are approved or denied. Is that true?

If you're approved, you find out right away. You'll get a letter and they'll send you the passport back with the visa inside.

If they ask for more information, you'll have to send it to the embassy and then you'll hear a decision.

But honestly, I can't even remember the last denial I heard out of Vancouver OR Montreal. Or even a request for more info. Just not that common at all in Canada.

That's really good news. I let her know all of what was talking about in this thread and she's feeling pretty great about things as well.

Plus we've been meaning to travel over to Vancouver. This just gives us more of a reason. :)

Thank you for the responses.

I do have the divorce decree and will make sure to provide that with the petition. I also can provide tax proof regarding my income.

As for the interview, I've gathered that the interview is held in Canada, correct? Am I allowed to go with her?

Read the guides for a K1 visa over and over and over again until you have the process down-pat!!

I've read a few other threads about the wait time approaching one year for CSC? This is California Service Center, correct? Will my application go there if I'm from Oklahoma, or does it get somewhere else? Thank you for answering a basic question for me.
