there's more to it than just quality of life. there's history, for example. this country has a violent history which has to a very large extent shaped its social mores. in that respect, we have more in common with mexico than we do with canada.

And that's a fair point as well. That's not exactly "human nature" then. That's being a product of your environment.

Of course its human nature......the fact that we are not even more violent now is because of conditioning. Go back before biblical times, before the ten commandments came along (which is the basis of our Penal law), long before.......MIGHT MAKES RIGHT. That's been the way it is throughout the history of mankind.

If you're willing to blame it all on human nature, why isn't Australia just as bad as ONE STATE in the US? Canada has 30+ million people, somewhere between the population of Texas and California. They both have more gun violence than Canada does. Does the need for violence only impact Americans?

Face the facts that being in the US has something to do with it. The country's history, the state of mental healthcare, the access to weapons. You can't blame it all on human nature and ignore the rest.

a young child goes to school (anywhere). he hits his classmate. Thats human nature.

You tell him that what he did was wrong, thats conditioning....

You tell him what he did was right, that's also conditioning........

Different enclaves/ cultures/ regions have a different sense of conditioning.

So you're telling me this violence is simply human nature, other countries just do better at conditioning their children?

I am saying it is in human nature to be violent. Just like it's in human nature to be selfish and greedy. It is human nature to envy. If these things are not traits of human nature, we would need no laws at all.

So human nature is making the US more violent (especially with guns) than other similar countries. Okay.

I read him as saying we're conditioning our kids differently than other countries are.

That's what I asked and I didn't get an answer.

So the belief is that we're born violent, but other countries are conditioning their children to not act on that violence.

we are truly all born sinners, whether you're religious or not...

Wait, explain this to the atheist me.

How was I born a sinner?

if human nature is to be violent and if urge to be violent is a sin, then you are born with the sin.

just like it's "cheating" (some say) to want to cheat, even if you actually don't.

Why do you think There's the Ten Commandments? If human nature doesn't require conditioning? Why do we even need a Penal Law? or any Law?

When a 3 year old hits another 3 year old over a piece of candy, did anyone ever tell him to do it? or did he do it out of human nature?

Oh, I thought you were going to explain it to me without religion. Since you said "whether you're religious or not".

So the three year old who hits another kid over candy is a sinner? Harsh.
