norway? mexico? france?

How about bombings?

may be the court officers got into a gun fight with him, and prevented more deaths......

I would hardly call Mexico a civilized country.

How many recent mass shootings in Norway do you know of? I can think of one.

France?

France had 134 gun related deaths reported in 2009. The US that year? Over 11,000.

Maybe security officers did stop the violence. I would hope that's the case. They could not prevent the killing, and I don't think anything could. I simply think that's just the way things are in this country. Talk of gun control is nice and all, but with every day that passes, a new shooting occurs and it becomes obvious: the problem is too big.

Going all the way back to 1996, you found four stories. Four.

The latest one being over five years ago.

Here's a US vs Australia comparison:

Violence happens everywhere. Nobody's arguing that. But there's no point in denying that it happens more often and on a larger scale in the US than it does in other CIVILIZED countries. Not Mexico...

You do not think that gun statistics take population into consideration? So the states with the highest population should have the most gun deaths, right? Except that isn't the case.

But okay, let's compare NY to Australia. NY had 445 firearm murders in 2011.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2011/jan/10/gun-crime-us-state

In 2010, Australia had 30.

And I found more than 4 stories....I just posted the 4 because if I post one from India, you might say "that doesn't count because its not a civilized country".....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate

Look at the kind of countries that are ahead of America in gun related deaths.

Countries like El Salvador, Jamaica, Honduras, Guatemala, Swaziland, Colombia, Brazil, Panama ...

India, by the way? On that list, not even close to the US.

I am talking about homicides by firearm. Aren't you?

You wanted to compare NY to Australia and I did. Similar populations, yet very different results when it comes to gun violence. Why?

If it's human nature, why isn't it happening everywhere else on the same scale? I compared ONE state to an entire country and the US still had far more gun related deaths. Does human nature not matter in Australia?

It makes sense to compare the US to like-minded countries, no? Countries with a similar quality of life. Plenty more than three.

You could compare the US to a poverty-stricken country if you'd like but I'm not sure that's a fair comparison.

there's more to it than just quality of life. there's history, for example. this country has a violent history which has to a very large extent shaped its social mores. in that respect, we have more in common with mexico than we do with canada.
