(CNN) -- Several people were shot Monday morning at a courthouse in Wilmington, Delaware, including a constable, according to Wilmington Police spokesman Jamaine Crawford.

A constable is an official with duties similar to a sheriff but more limited in power and jurisdiction.

The shooting occurred at the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas.

The number of injured and the severity of their injuries were not immediately available.

The police chief of Wilmington was scheduled to be in Philadelphia on Monday to attend a roundtable discussion about gun safety. Vice President Joe Biden, law enforcement officials and members of Congress were expected to be there.

More laws should stop this sort of thing from happening again.

This was an event caused by domestic violence. tragic, but not a blind rampage.

A weird comment to make, but alright. I don't think anyone was saying anything about a blind rampage.

An update: 3 people are dead.

Three people are dead, including a gunman who opened fire in a courthouse in Wilmington, Delaware, Monday morning, Delaware State Police said.

Two Capitol Police officers were wounded in the gunfight, but their injuries aren't life threatening because they were wearing bulletproof vests, police said.

The man entered the lobby of at the New Castle County Courthouse around 8 a.m. and began shooting, said State Police Sgt. Paul Shavack.

He acted alone, Shavack said, and the shooting was not an act of terrorism.

The two who are dead are women, but Shavack declined to give details about them.

News reports said the gunman's estranged wife was among the victims, but Shavack said he could not confirm that a family member was involved. He described the shooter as white and between the ages of 50 and 60.

Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams has told reporters that police killed the gunman.

Jose Beltran, a Court of Common Pleas worker, told the News Journal in Wilmington that he was walking into the courthouse lobby when he heard shots.

"I saw two shots," he said. "I saw people going on the ground so I just made a U-turn and ran out of the building," he said. "After that I don't know what happened."

Thomas Warren told the newspaper that as he approached the courthouse entrance to report for jury duty, he saw what appeared to be the body of a man lying on his stomach.

Local and federal authorities, including agents from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, responded.

The courthouse was evacuated and police did a floor-by-floor search of the 12-story building to make sure there was only the single gunman and there were no more threats, Shavack said.

I'm criticising the way the media has been on a blind reporting rampage since the Newtown shootings to sensationalize every single tragic event that would have otherwise not gotten such national attention.

More security at the court house today would not have prevented from this man's determination to kill his wife. (though it may have prevented the others from getting shot). And this happened at a court house, there must have been plenty of Police, court, and other peace officers present with guns. So for all we know, this man was stopped before he had a chance to kill others.

And what laws could have prevented this man from killing his wife?

Is simply reporting a news story considered "sensationalizing"? It's buried in the "THIS JUST IN" section on CNN.

Shootings have made the news as long as I can remember, especially ones that take place in a public area.

The answer, from the NRA, to the violence is "more guards everywhere" ... that won't stop the violence. I'm not sure anything will. I think this is just the way this country is and will be because attempts at solving the problem are too hard.

You can't ban all guns and even if you could, there are still millions of illegal weapons on the streets. You can't even DISCUSS gun control without people clinging to the guns and complaining about it. No rational discussions ever take place.

Bottom line is that America is a violent country and Americans have easy access to weapons that can do damage on a massive scale. And no law will stop it from happening.

You could be shot going to court, going to the movies, going to the mall, going to church, going to work, going to school, etc etc etc.

So arm yourselves and hope for the best, folks. This is as good as it gets.

I know of very few news reports that are NOT sensationalized. But I didn't see a headline that read "Man kills wife at court, and is killed by security".

In regards to the NRA. I neither agree or disagree with them. But prevention is difficult to measure. We don't know if the gunman intended to kill more people today (wife's attorney, relatives, judges etc). And we don't know if he was prevented from doing so because he was immediately shot (By someone with a gun).

Bottom line for me, America is not the only place where its violent. It's human nature. The fact that most people are not violent is because we've been conditioned thru the ages to wean away from violence as a solution to anything.

He killed more than his wife. He killed another woman and wounded a couple of officers.

America isn't the only place where it's violent. Of course not.

But think of how many mass shootings there were just last year. I can think of three or four off the top of my head and I know I'm missing a few. Do you see that happening elsewhere, in other civilized countries? Canada, the UK, Australia? Why do you think that is?
