As for what Su and Marvin speculated about, is'nt it possible that the same people who rely on a gun as a tool of defense are the same type person who also hold living in a safer area as a priority?

I don't see any conflict there.

Actually, it's just Marvin, my wife won't post on here. If she does, she will announce it.

Safety is always a priority, and there is nothing wrong with folks having a gun for protection, I was just pointing out that those that complain the most about gun control and restrictions are the ones living in the safest neighborhood, and the folks losing loved ones to gun violence everyday just want the killings to stop, and they know more guns isn't the answer.

You must be referring to folks say in Chicago?

Well of course they just want it to stop...... and as we see in so many other areas of life, they are waiting on the Gov't to make that happen.

How long have they been waiting?

I'm referring to anyone who has lost someone to senseless gun violence. It doesn't matter where. But you bring up an interesting topic, the government. I beleive that it takes more than them to end it, but they do share some responsibility. You can start from the home, but you will always have bad apples. And if there isn't a strong police force, crime is going to thrive. Take a drive through a run down area, and see how much police presence is around. But it's funny how people in "urban" areas get a hard time about govt handouts, but after Sandy Hook, no on is complaining about them putting armed guards in school.

Not sure what you are suggesting, police man hours are dominated by patrolling and servicing the bad parts of town. Because thats where the majority of crime takes place.

As to your point about small govt conservatives having heart-burn over hand outs but they seem to favor police in schools.

I think your confusion is be3cause you don't know what the proper roll of Gov't is (according to conservatives).

A limited gov't's basic charge is to maintain peace and order.

That is the mission, not Meals-on-wheels, not Obama phones and not trolly cars or D.A.R.E programs which like most programs are a waste of money.

It's funny how people keep bringing up these phones, yet I come from an urban arean, and have never met a single person who owns one. I am still waiting for my free stuff everyone keeps talking about.

I am currently living about 10 minutes away from the most dangerous city in America. When I drive through there to go home, (number 8 on the list) I don't see a single cop car, yet poverty and crime are rampart. I guess they patrol the places I am not driving. The same goes for home, but driving around the nice parts of Illinois? All I see is cop cars, heck I saw an old man get pulled over last week and he had 4 police cars on him. Kind of excessive if you ask me.

What I am trying to say is, when you have a lot of crime and drugs in an area, you can start from within, but it will take some outside assistance since you are dealing with a problem that's bigger than a few misguided teenagers. My grandfather, who is 94 years old and has had a plethora of jobs, has imparted a lot of wisdom unto to me about this situation. He has seen it, lived through it and tried to help as many as he can through his experience.

:wow: You mean all those Hollywood movies and teevee shows showing heavy police presence in inner cities is not accurate?! I am shocked, I tell you, just shocked!! Who could have known! So why don't those communities just hire hundreds of new cops and outfit them with the best training and equipment to make these communities safe? You say it takes money? Surely our strong law and order advocates like those tea partiers will understand. Oh, wait a minute. Never mind.

I have never met anyone either who has the free phone (how would I know)

but I heard a commercial on the radio just this week advertising them.

I think it was done by the company proving the phones.

If you like I will get the info and forward it to you next time I hear it?

Tune into a minority aimed radio station you might hear a commercial in your area too.

Are you touching down on reality yet?

"How are "those communities" going to pay for it, on balance they don't have the tax base to do any such thing.

The city as a whole must (and should) provide and fund the higher levels of police service.

You seem to speculating that "Those communities" don't have police protection.

Your observations driving down the freeway and glancing over at "those communities" might be interesting, why not post some evidence that this is the case, it is all public record you know.

If there is something to it I would like to know.
