This issue has been running thru my head everyday and all day. My fiance did not attend secondary school in Algeria but instead went on to pursue some kind of vocational trade for almost 2 years. In algeria this type of diploma that he received is not considered a high school diploma or a Baccalauréat. I am scared that when the interview comes around they will question him because of failure to complete his Baccalauréat. I'm also wondering if this certification of vocational school will serve here in the USA as a high school diploma? Or will he just have to get his GED? I hope somebody has the answer to this if someone is going thru the same situation I'd really appreciate some feedback. Thank you all!!

What type of vocational school did he attend? I am sure it will not be considered the same as a high school diploma, but depending on the field his skills from this may transfer. Has he been working in this field since? Getting a GED when he gets here might be helpful in the overall job market. It couldn't hurt.

It's a "CENTRE D'FORMATION" which here in the United States equals to that (vocational school which helps you find a job) because it's no more than two years. He has been working on this after he obtained his diploma, I just hate the fact that when he arrived he'd have to go thru the whole GED process and he speaks little english (I am aware they have GED in french) but all this is such a hassle, one thing after the other. I am saying if this diploma would serve such that in every job application they ask for your highest level of education...

My husband stopped academic school in Denmark at 16. Their school system is set up different. We still enrolled him as a non-degree seeking student in university (he is taking Calculus this semester despite not having even done Algebra II). That seems to open some doors and with a certain number of classes under his belt, he won't need to produce a high school diploma (which I don't think his school leaving certificate counts as). He has done post-secondary vocational training here, though.

I think your #1 goal right now should be English, English, and English. That is what is going to open the doors.
