trying to minimize the delay while we wait for birth certificate

we are at 188 days and expect to get our NOA2 SOON. My fiancée beneficiary in the Philippines has an 8 year old son who will accompany her here to the USA. There is a mistake on her child's birth certificate, so now we will delay her K1 interview for probably 4 months while we get the child's birth certificate corrected and then finally get his passport.

We are trying to find ways to minimize the length of this set-back, but still it looks like we will have to ask to extend the 4-month term that is required to go from NOA2 to K1 Visa approval.

She posted a question here a few days ago, but I want to ask the same question again........

Can she take the medical test without having the K1 interview SCHEDULED? Does she have to wait to schedule the interview at the US Embassy before she can take the medical tests? She already has a passport.

Also, can her son ALSO take the medical tests even though she won't have yet scheduled the K1 interview? Her son won't even have a passport yet.

And how do I go about requesting to get an extension for K1 interview after we reach NOA2? I am thinking she needs to call the US Embassy in Manila to get this extension.

I swear I am considering just having her schedule her for her K1 interview, and then having her take the medical, and then hopefully have her passing everything, and then just go through the whole process again for her son.

They may ask for her son's birth certificate during her interview as well. It's totally up to you if you want to try and explain the issues with the birth certificate. Also, if she does her interview, depending on the age of her son, then he can automatically follow anytime one year after her interview. You might need to set up an interview for him, but if you put him down as following later on the DS-230, it may be as easy as submitting his passport later and they add the stamp by mail. I don't know the rules in Manila..

It may also depend on his age what they do for him to follow.

In the interest of keeping things going, my experience says you should have the interview and medical done as soon as possible or something else might pop up unexpectedly that delays everyting further. But I wouldn't have the interview unless you are comfortable with whatever questions they might ask, especially in regards to the Birth Cert.

Bear in mind that the medical exam is only valid within 6 MONTHS.

If your child's BC is not yet corrected within your 4-month timeframe and still no passport for him, there's a big chance that your fiancee's medical will expire. She will have to undergo another medical exam and pay another medical fee.
