Aussie denied b2 Visa in Canada can i still enter on VWP?

hi, i'm an australian citizen and i'm currently in canada on a working holiday visa and was given the wrong information in that i needed to apply for a b2 visa to enter the US while i'm here in canada as it would be "easier and less hassle at the border". i applied and went to the embassy in canada and was denied the b2 visa and he wasn't sure if it affected my current ESTA that i got before i left australia. i'm just wondering if anyone knows if i'm actually allowed into the US if i was denied the b2 visa here in canada? i still have 1 and a half years left on the 2 year esta, and used up around 60 days when i first arrived in america (6 months ago) then headed up here to canada to activate my working holiday visa.

In short, you can apply for an ESTA to use the visa waiver program, but it will likely be denied.

You cannot use your old ESTA as you are required to obtain a new one following material changes to your circumstances, such as being refused a visa.

Denial of the B-2 means you can no longer use ESTA an the VWP to enter the US.

You need to get ESTA approved again before you can use it to enter the US at this point. You will be denied entry if you do not renew ESTA.

OK...thank you for the link...I found this quote on it...

"In some cases, you may not be sure how to answer this question because you were "allowed to withdraw" your application for entry, or a U.S. Consulate declined to issue you a visa because you did not have enough paperwork for them to make a decision on whether or not to grant you a visa. If this is your situation, we advise you to contact a U.S. Consulate and discuss what happened and ask them to tell you whether or not the withdrawal or declining to issue a visa constitutes an actual denial of entry or visa."

What has happened is the consulate gave me a 221G and it says I have a year to come back to the consulate with proof of a job... so I don't know if that's an actual denial or what?

Should I just contact the consulate and talk to them like the above paragraph says?

You can, but I doubt it will change matters. You applied for a visa and it was not granted, ergo it was denied. A 221g is a refusal.

But what if I travel by land into the US? I read the esta doesn't apply to land or sea, so would I still need to update it?

So the 221g is an actual denial?

Oh, I wish I hadn't put this silly b2 visa thing in in the first place! All I wanted to do was be able to go in and out of the US freely to see new york and the rest of the sights while I'm here in Canada for the next two years and now I don't even know if I can cross the border I'm too afraid to unless I can get some definite answers is there a number I can call or someone I can contact that I can talk to to get some solid facts?

How is he going to get into the US with a denied visitor visa? The US does not let visitor in with a recently denied visitor visa.

Because your post implied the OP does not need to renew ESTA to cross into the US by land at this time.
