I heard that although you should make an appointment, it's still a first come, first serve. FYI, so even if a person without an appointment gets there before you, they will be served first.

This is not true. The passport agencies do not process applications for people without an appointment.

I was talking about passport agencies were they issue same-day passports. Appointments are required. They do not take walk ins.

At the Atlanta location, the security won't even let you pass through security without an appointment.

Edited to add--I think you are confusing the passport acceptance facility: which are the courthouses and post offices and the passport agencies. The acceptance facilities process regular time frame passport applications and expedites. Some of the facilities require appointments and some do not.

The passport agencies which process same day passport application require an appointment and proof of travel within 14 days.

Candhan,

Thank you for you link, it does seem that NY allows it. I posted my views based on my experience with the Atlanta Passport Agency were I took family members twice to get their passports. Both times security made sure we had an appointments before they let us in.

I don't see why you will even need an appt at the NY agency if they process walk ins before people who have appointments.

I would assume that if the walk-in comes in and there's no line then they'd be processed first, but someone with an appointment goes to the head of a line... kinda like a doctors office processing walk-ins. If they're not busy they'll see you but once the actual appointments arrive you need to wait. At least you'd hope that's how it works otherwise it's irritating.

I know the process is quite quick thank goodness so you wouldn't be waiting long

Same here, no interview letter for 2 months after bio... I wonder what is keeping our offices...

Based on what I have seen generally appointment is for 5 weeks after you receive the letter. Anybody agree or disagree?
