Just a quick question!

Me and my husband (the usc) are hoping to get me a cr1 visa! When i arrive i would like to start work asap! Now as i understand the temporary i-551 in my passport acts as my work authorisation until my gc arrives! But am i legally allowed to start job seeking activities before i get this visa stamp?

I would like to send resumes and start networking from the uk before i emigrate so is this allowed?

OUR STORY

February 2009 - Met online online on social networking site

August 2009 - Spent 2 weeks together in England in which time we got engaged !!!!!YEY!!!!!

October 2009 - Spent 2 weeks together in America

December 2009 - Spent 5 months together in England

May 2010 - We both went to America when we spent 2 weeks together

August 2010 - Spent 3 weeks together in America

December 2010 - Spent 5 months together in England

May 2011 - We both went to America together where we spent 2 weeks together

September 2011 - Spent 3 weeks together in America

December 2011 - Spent 5 months together again in England as with the previous years!

April 2012 - spent 2 weeks together in America, got married on May 8th in America!!!!!!!

no harm in searching, prior.

don't forget to chase down the SSN about 2 weeks after hitting the poe.

study the I-9 form, as well.

09/26/2012: Mailed I-130 from Nigeria( delayed by customs)
USCIS stage ( 66 days)
10/12/2012: NOA 1
12/17/2012: NOA 2 (case was transferred to NYC office 11/27/12)
NVC stage ( 20 days)
01/08/2013: Case # and IIN assigned ( file arrived NVC mail room 12/20/12)
01/09/2013: AOS invoiced and paid, DS-3032 emailed and mailed.
01/16/2013: IV invoiced &paid. AOS & IV mailed in one package(arrived 01/18).
01/28/2013: Case complete!!!
04/19/2013: Interview; APPROVED!!!!!

Yes it is allowed, and you could even go to job interviews using your visa waiver program. However, I doubt many employers will look at you unless you have some very impressive skills, not knowing when exactly you can start work and with you being in another country...

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

You are allowed to look and network and send resumes and even go to interviews, but you cannot accept any offers (even of work later) or do anything for which you or someone else might be compensated. Be careful, even volunteering can fall afoul of this rule if they reimburse you for your time or petrol for your car or even offer you lunch. The rule of thumb is that you cannot take any sort of work for which a US citizen could theoretically be compensated, even if you yourself work for free.

But he did do a lot of asking around in the industry he wants to try to get into when he finally makes it over here. By all means, do that.

September 10, 2009: Arrived for first meeting in-person!
June 17, 2010: Arrived for second in-person meeting and start of travel together to other areas of China!

September 1, 2010: Switched course from K1 to CR-1
December 8, 2010: Wedding date set; it will be on February 18, 2011!

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal
