New Jersey's two highest-ranking lawmakers said they expect to provide an average 20 percent property-tax reduction to a majority of households in the state.

[...]

"'... we can make projections of the immediate property-tax relief most homeowners will experience," Assembly Speaker Joseph Roberts said in a statement. ''An average 20 percent property-tax credit for the majority of New Jersey households is achievable."

Yep, but the states cut of your local property taxes are usually a very small percentage!

The big ticket item is school taxes.

Also, it sounds like this has been in the works for a while. Has nothing to do with the cuurent elections.

Traditionally, democrats have been the big spenders; mostly entitilements...

That is correct. Property taxes in New Jersey have been a political issue for a while.

Regardless, if my property tax bill goes down 20%, I'll be happy.

More details from the NY Times:

The proposal of a 20 percent tax credit paid by the state directly to homeowners was unveiled less than a week before a deadline for lawmakers to offer ways to cut property taxes in New Jersey, which has the highest such levies in the nation.

The average resident pays $6,000 annually in property taxes, twice the national average. A 20 percent cut would slice that average bill to $4,800. The plan would be financed in large part by halting the rebate checks and combining that money with proceeds from the state’s new sales tax increase.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

20% isn't enough

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
