No advice to avoid beef foods after horsemeat find

People need not avoid other processed beef foods following the discovery of horsemeat in Findus lasagne, the Food Standards Agency has said.

It has asked UK firms to test all processed beef foods, but said it did not "suspect that there's any health issue with frozen food in general".

Shadow environment secretary Mary Creagh has expressed fears that other contaminated foods may be found.

The government said it was working with businesses to enforce regulations.

Earlier this week, a third-party French supplier alerted Findus to concerns that the beef lasagne product did not "conform to specification".

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said Findus had tested the meat in 18 of its beef lasagne products and found 11 meals in which it contained between 60% and 100% horsemeat.

And I always thought this was funny...

I think I had a horse meat burger in Amsterdam once. I guess I was too whacked out on mushrooms to tell the difference. I know it had a fired egg on top, which I found odd.

Fried eggs on hamburgers aren't odd! They serve them at Red Robin even.

I thought horse meat was big in France.

Try a panini in Sicily, it's one of their specialities.:)

It's the UK - who cares? I gets my goat curry from a halal shop in Liverpool, and my sausages from a local butcher who buys just outside of town - so I don't expose myself to horse anything.

Horse poo, that's a different story, but only in the USA ;)
