Why? Why not just raise the minimum wage? If the current minimum wage is below poverty level and the Republicans are claiming what a great economy we have then why not pay people a more sustainable wage?

...oh, I know the answer already...they should go get a better paying job...

I don't know why not. No-one is paid at the minimum rate anyway, except maybe illegals.

Even the crappiest job at McDonalds pays a lot more than the minimum wage.

That realtor advice is good. If I had it to do over again Id be a realto in a minute. Ive lived through a number of housing booms where these guys are coining money left and right. Even in slow times, realtors who have been around a while have dozens of listings in their books and are making lots of cash. Its like anything else, the first ten years will be lean and you have to work hard but man... easy street comes later.

I still kick my old man for poo pooing my idea to become a plumber. Ill unstick your toilet for 200 bucks if Im in the area. 500 if I need to stick my hand in there. And if its after 5:00.. you cant afford to take a #######.

Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Robert E. Rubin, the Treasury secretary under President Bill Clinton who helped engineer the end of a generation of budget deficits, urged Democrats to increase taxes to erase the U.S. fiscal shortfall.

I'm surprized it took them 3 days to start talking about raising taxes. Hopefully, Bush will finally veto something if those nuckleheads pass a tax increase.

Seriously -- are you really happy with so much debt to China? Does that sound very conservative to you?

Look the reality is that China gives us stuff (product)...we give them paper (a note for money). And the debt isn't that big of a deal. Especially compared to GDP. We have one of the best debt to GDP ratios in history right now. A big reason for that is the Bush tax cuts!

And do you know how much most union jobs pay? When I lived in Chicago it was just silly how much money they get! And I willingly paid it as I needed their services. And the unions for construction, electrician, plumbers, etc. are just DYING for new journeymen to join the ranks. There are not enough people willing to do those types of jobs. If you are someone who is over 25 and earning minimum wage you are not trying to find a job.
