I wish I could say the same on both counts.

Since you're from Canada, one of my favourites was getting pulled over in downtown Montreal for no seatbealt, and then getting screamed at for speaking English to the cop, even though I had Texas plates on my car. Granted that's pretty minor in the scope of things.

That musta been funny lol

I have 3 family members that are cops including my brother. I can tell you from my experiences with members of law enforcement that the "screw loose" part usually comes after a few years of being on the force. The power goes to their heads and they begin to think they are invincible. I watched my brother go through this, we used to be really close, but now I find it hard to be around him much at all.

i have a similar experience. my cousin became a cop when he was 21. he is super cocky and loves being the 'big guy'. loves being in charge. his first few years on the job he would constantly offer to "lookup" people, pull over people to check them out..etc.

he pulled over my dad, as a joke. pulled over my ex husband, and pretended like he didn't know him, as a joke (for my benefit even though i wasn't there..) he has that sort of *sshole/charming sort of personalty that normally produces car salesman or deadbeats.

it is way too easy to become a cop. and they always seem to be hiring, begging for new recruits.

Yeah I happen to move there just prior to the Iraq war starting. Of course most people there thought everyone from Texas was an idiot thanks to guy in the White House at the time. Can't say I really blame them for that though.

  I never could quite put my finger on it, but I'd say you nailed it.

I don't think it's that easy to become a cop...I know a lot of them. It's quite a good job, long waiting lists. Lots of requirements.

i'm talking local - not state. there are no waiting lists here, unless you're referring to the wait for background checks. winchester has a problem hiring and keeping police the same as they do teachers; a half hour to an hour commute over the mountain for much higher pay and benefits lures quite a few away from our area every year. the requirements are pretty basic, imo:

application process.

OK now you're confusing the ####### outta me lol, hyprocrisy is already being dishonest, no?

No, hypocrisy in and of itself is not being dishonest. Dishonesty requires intent.

I wouldn't make it past step one.

The thing that gets me about cops, including my brother, is that in their mind, they're never wrong. That's mostly because no one has the guts to tell them they're wrong. I have the guts to tell my little brother when he's wrong, but he doesn't want to hear it. This has driven a wedge between us, because he acts like a completely arrogant ####### most of the time and he does whatever he wants when he wants. I don't want to be a part of it.

All that said, he is a good cop and does his job well.

The minimum acceptable passing level for each test is:

3. Number of sit-ups performed in 1 minute – minimum of 25

4. 300 meter run – completed in a minimum of 75 seconds

6. 1.5 mile run – completed in 16:55 minutes

when i was much younger and used get caught up with police quite often, i quickly learned that there are definitely as many bad cops as good. and my cousin must have been a good cop because he didn't stay one long. he was quickly promoted and works for the cia or state department (we're not supposed to know exactly) interrogating people overseas, mostly in the middle east. he's not supposed to talk about any aspect of his job, yet he brags an awful lot about "catching terrorists" whenever he's around. i think any sort of authoritative job is going to bring out the worst in this sort of personality. he is a good dad, in addition to doing a great deal of voluntary work with kids. he was a best friend to me when we were little. but i completely know what you mean with the wedge bit..

Being a cop is a power trip, some people handle it well, others don't. It does suck to watch the power change a person in a negative way.
